Opera Software Launches Opera 10 Browser

Opera Software Launches Opera 10 Browser

Opera Claims that the browser is upto 8 times faster on slow connections
Opera 10 is now available to download for Windows, Linux and Mac platforms, less than a week after Opera Software spun out the release candidate version of the browser.

The Oslo, Norway-based company said the browser comes loaded with Opera Turbo, a compression engine intended to speed up slow web connections. It claimed the engine runs Opera 10 up to eight times faster on lousy internet connections compared with rival browsers.

Other improvements include Google Gmail-like mail client tweaks and better thumbnail tabs. Opera has also beefed up its customisable Speed Dial feature that shows more commonly visited web pages ( I added my favorite review site https://buy.guru to it) than previously. And there’s a spell check (for 51 languages) that can now be used in any text field within Opera.

Meanwhile, developers itching to play with code via the browser now have access to a newer version of Opera Dragonfly, the outfit’s online dev tool. However, some might argue a few key things are missing from this release.

Notably, Opera Unite is absent from Opera 10. The web-browser-meets-web-server contraption, which the firm unveiled in June this year to a lukewarm reception, hasn't been loaded into this version of the browser. There’s also no sign of Opera’s new JavaScript engine that has been under development for a little under a year now.

You can download and try out the new Opera browser for PC, Mac and Linux here : http://www.opera.com/browser/download/

IE?.. Your kidding right?

IE has the slowest Javascript engine in the entire Browser battle.

I have seen those benchmarks and they say that IE is slow.. but to my personal experience it is very fast.

Sometime back even Karan was claiming it is fast. Not as fast as the chess players at IPCA, but fast!

Re: Opera Software Launches Opera 10 Browser

ZOMG! How can IE be faster?! The whole interwebs runs on javascript!! I dont think HTML rendering, prefetching, caching, server request performance matter at all. Vijayninel, you shall be punished for your sins!!

On a different note, Ive been looking forward to this release, but this is rather quick. 10RC was out just a while back.

Maybe it is an illusion for me as the benchmarks say otherwise. But I must say that it feels very fast for me, i was in a are with patchy Mobile Data Signal in Gujarat Forests and yet the pages loaded considerably faster for me.

BTW you will be surprised that a lot of people, even on this forum disable Javascript on their browsers. Even I have NoScript installed though I rarely use it.

Im with you mate. My post was directed more towards Adityas, and I seem to have forgotten the sarcasm tags.

I understand what you said earlier, I find Opera faster than IE though.

Here are the torrent files for the release

Opera Torrents

Im looking forward to their new javascript engine which should come with some 10.x release. Heard it has native code execution and lots of other speed improvements.

Re: Opera Software Launches Opera 10 Browser

Yes, but there are no real sites which dont have Javascript. Even E has JS to an extent.

Sites like Facebook, Orkut, Gmail, Hotmail, etc. ALL crawl on IE8.
