WILL RAM AFFECT GAMES FPS on a 64 BIT OS ?

Prob :Lately i was on WINDOWS XP PRO SP3 32BIT & never ever tried 64 BIT, but after the Release of WIN & which tempted me to go for ULTIMATE 64BIT , but all of a sudden i see some drastic drop in games FPS & with heavy LAGS ! GAMES : CRYSIS : WARHEAD, COD 6 MW2, STAR WARS FORCE UNLEASHED !

FPS : CRYSIS WARHEAD : 18-25 FPS ON GAMER , STAR WARS 10-18 ,
COD6 MW2 : 18-25 ON HIGH ( all the game with no AAs AFs ) with WIN 7 64 BIT

before
: i ran CRYSIS WARHEAD MAXED OUT ( enthusiastic ) with 30 fps on my XP
My rig : INTEL E 2160 @ STOCK ,MOBO : ASUS P5KC , RAM : TRANS 2GB 800MHz, GPU : HD 4850 PSU : CORSAIR VX 450.

ONE WORD : i got gud fps on XP with the same RIG & but just an OS CHANGE & 64BIT will this be the problem ?

thanks

Re: WILL RAM AFFECT GAMES FPS on a 64 BIT OS ?

its not because of 64bit but XP SP3 is the best OS for gaming as simple as that though having more ram will improve gaming in Win7 drastically since Win7 memory footprint is bigger than XP

Re: WILL RAM AFFECT GAMES FPS on a 64 BIT OS ?

Get proper drivers? and patches? Cuz my games all run at a better framerate on 64bit Win7 than they did on my XP SP3 32bit. This includes GRID, Gears of War, CSS, NFS Shift. Didn't have Borderlands back when I had XP but anyway, I get around 80-100fps or so maxed with 16xAF and no AA.

Yes, this is because you don't have enough VRAM on your graphics card to handle the highest textures + AA + possibly AF. And there will be some setting somewhere in the drivers that you wouldve overlooked. Possibly the Power Saving settings?

Re: WILL RAM AFFECT GAMES FPS on a 64 BIT OS ?

Ummm its simple as this :

Windows XP : DirectX 9 .....

Windows 7 : DirectX 10 < So obviously more details less fps :S

Re: WILL RAM AFFECT GAMES FPS on a 64 BIT OS ?

^ I thought Crysis and Warhead needed a setting to be changed in order to use DX10 mode? Also I believe when you enabled DX10 mode, it automatically enabled DX10 AA.

Re: WILL RAM AFFECT GAMES FPS on a 64 BIT OS ?

Havent used the Catalyst drivers since June.. But there will be a power savings setting somewhere ( There is one for my GTX260 C216 which allows me to pick maximum performance or Adaptive power modes where it gives the video card only enough clocks to run something )

When youre running DX10, Crysis is already a heavily textured game, on top of that AA and AF would be enabled by default on Enthusiast settings thus taking away from your video card memory. I was frankly never interested in Crysis otherwise I would've installed and seen what optimizations you could have made.

Also the Win7 footprint is bigger than XP hence you'll see memory usage in the higher 1.xx GB

Re: WILL RAM AFFECT GAMES FPS on a 64 BIT OS ?

Coz COD is DX9 i guess....

@Bandar...you just need to crank up the settings in order to enable that in Windows 7/Vista .... which he has already done by turning up the settings to enthusiast....
