Weird problem with Beetel BXi 450 Wireless ADSL2 router

Howdy People,

I have a small(supposedly) problem.

After continous net usage, at times I find that I am unable to browse via my Airtel connection. The ADSL router is Beetel's BXi 450.

Situation is a little hilarious and frustrating at the same time.

I can ping to the world, to google.com to everybody in outside world but I cannot browse . Haah... yes that sounds pretty weird.

Running a tcpdump session on my interface shows that when i ping to the outside world the IP packet goes out with DF(don't fragment) flag set and i get a reply back. But when i browse the TCP packet has none of the flags set, and i get a host unreachable message in tcpdump logs .

I was just wondering if any of you guys face/faced this weird looking problem.

Looks like someone(router I guess) is either breaking down my packets to match the size it supports on WAN interface or it is not able to route my packet properly.

I know bad analysis.

Also during these times I am not even able to browse to router's ip via my browser. This makes it more frustrating.

I use 64 bit Linux kernel(ignore the apps part). Plus sometimes I may run few virtual machines on my 6.5.1 workstation.

Only soultion is stick both hands , pray and reboot. It may or may not work at times.

Any help guys?

Thanks,
--Pradeep

Hi-

I know its not relevant.... but, have you seen if any local rules at your system are preventing this?

Are you able to telnet to port 80 of any webserver?

telnet Erodov: India's Tech Portal 80

Re: Weird problem with Beetel BXi 450 Wireless ADSL2 router

Root cause -
If i run my WinXP VM on VMware Workstation 6.5.1, where the virtual interface is configured in bridged mode, after some time Router gets terribly confused. I do not know why? Perhaps some hardware engineer/ tweaked firmware/software forgot about software bridges or possiblity where same authenticated wifi access point can send traffic with more than one hardware addresses.

Anyway once i face this problem, I will try telneting on port 80.I don't think it will let me do it. Telnet and a web browser are lesser mortals which are not differentiated by the router IMHO. BUt still thanks for the tip, I ll try it for sure.

Thanks man.

Okay here is the solution.
Run your VM in NAT mode .Simple, do not let router get confused.

Let there be brotherly love between your router and your Virtual Machines .

^ me to faced the same situation but only when i was linked to Access point via a Atheros WLAN nic
nd whenevr i used some other vendor WLAN , say broadcom , worked flawlessly

linking to VM NAT solved mine prob there , but strange vaa.....
