Upgrading to GT 1030

Posting for a friend of mine-
My friend has a pc with these specifications:-
Gigabyte h61m s1
Intel Pentium g2030 @ 3 gHz
4 gb ddr3
He wants to upgrade to a GT 1030 as he generally plays esports games. What is the fps he must expect and does the gt 1030 require any cooling system?

Re: Upgrading to GT 1030

What's his budget? A GT 1030 seems to cost around 6.5k so I am guessing that's his budget or can he go higher? If he can get a used 750 ti for cheaper or spend a bit more for a 1050 2gb, both would be even better options for esports titles (unless his PSU is so bad that it can't even handle those two cards).

Anyway check this video to see how it does vs the RX 550 and the 750 ti -

The 1030 has a TDP of only 30W so if he goes with a passively cooled one, then he won't have to worry about fan noise at all.

Re: Upgrading to GT 1030

His main problem is an extra cooling system not the gfx card he wants to buy

Re: Upgrading to GT 1030

What do you mean by extra cooling system exactly? Are you talking about a passively cooled (no fan, only heatsink) 1030? Then no, you don't need any extra cooling - those are supposed to be heatsink only. That said, if your friend is concerned about heat, he can always buy an actively cooled 1030.

Now, if you are talking about case fans, then that would depend on his case, temps and how many fan mounts he has.

Re: Upgrading to GT 1030

As long as his temps are fine, no he doesn't really need anything else. The stock cooler should be enough for the G2020 and he can always get a 1030 with a fan if he wants more cooling though with a 30w TPD, even a fanless 1030 shouldn't be an issue.

That said, a rear exhaust fan wouldn't hurt. Pretty much every cabby has at least a rear fan mount. You could mount an inexpensive fan there to exhaust hot air out the case. Can't say much more unless I know what case he has and what his temps are.
