Re: Upgrade Path

The Athlons have lesser L3 cache IINM and thats what sets them apart from the Phenoms. Just get an x4 955 for 5k, or a 965 C3 for 6k and overclock the hell out of it. C3s do 4Ghz stable I believe. And with your cooler, I don't think cooling will be an issue.

Re: Upgrade Path

what i would like to add is that, just because you have the money ( or rather say dont have it, but are still pushed into upgrading ), there is not point upgrading for a particular game or anything. At the end of the day, you are gonna grow up and realise that gamin was a waste of money and resources.

Be very clear in what you want, and what you would like to spend for it. A lot of software is gonna run on your existing hardware, and will continue to do so for the years to come.

Case in point, I bought a CF mobo about 3 years back, thinking that if i ever need to upgrade, ill just change a PSU and add another card and go CF on my mobo. Neither was the PSU needed, neither was the second card. Why? because neither was the card in production that long that i would need a CF setup, neither did s/w or games progress so much.

Dont upgrade for gaming only, upgrade for a sense of VFM, and getting bang for your buck.

Re: Upgrade Path

He has quite a crappy dual core, the same processor and stepping as me. I'm upgrading as well, however, mine is to facilitate me learning 3dsmax and After Effects, and maybe, Maya.

Re: Upgrade Path

I paid 4.5k for my Dual Core processor waay back in 2010.
So if I upgrade to a quad-core for 6k won't that be more VFM than switching out the whole system?
I am also slowly getting into video-editing and just installed after effects, will try to learn something after my exams get over.
So yeah my upgrade isn't just gaming-centric.

Re: Upgrade Path

I have no plans to upgrade to BD.
Even if I did, I want a board supporting SLI/Xfire just in case.
:S
What's the cheapest board with SLI/Xfire (x8/x8 preferably)

Re: Upgrade Path

I really see no need to upgrade to 9xx chipset.
Sticking with everything stock for now.
Will get a new cabinet and a new cooler or just a few dust filters and some fans.

Re: Upgrade Path

I'd suggest, instead of a new cabinet, get dust filters, a new cooler ( maybe the U12P ), some fans, and most importantly, pressurized air cans. Lots of them. They come in handy.
