TSMC's New 28nm Process Node Starts Volume Production!

The new generation is coming!

After the announcement of ARM's A7 architecture which ARM specified would use the 28nm fabrication process, news from the Taiwan Semi-conductor Manufacturing Company indicate that the 28nm fabrication process has officially begun. This has varied implications in various fields:
1. GTX 600 series might hit the market as soon as Q1 2012
2. The 7 series will definitely hit the market in Q4 2011
3. Qualcomm's S4 chipset will also be making the move to 28nm
4. ARM's A7 will be 28nm
A thinner fabrication process means higher energy efficiency, lower energy consumption and probably better performance.
This may also lead to the death of extreme air-cooling as the temperatures of subsequent generations are lower than the previous one.

Even if you want to say this, your location is a constraint.

Re: TSMC's New 28nm Process Node Starts Volume Production!

I know, but that's what AMD has said.
Q4 2011, probably a Late November-Early December launch date.
So far specs of only the lower end/IGP's of the 7 series have come to light.
The mid/higher end is still a mystery. But it appears that it will just be a Southern Islands refresh with a die shrink.

Re: TSMC's New 28nm Process Node Starts Volume Production!

That was an old press release or something.
The latest drivers apparently revealed info about the 74xx and 76xx series.
And as for 7870>6970 I highly doubt it coz AMD's latest news revealed that the 7 series is essentially a die shrink coupled with a better BIOS and clock adjustments.
