I need a wireless service to be connected to a laptop. I just need it for surfing the net and occassional video chat. Dont need an unlimited connection. Need decent speeds and should not be too expensive. And should work properly in Kolkata, B'lore & Hyderabad.

Need to buy this weekend so any suggestion is welcome.

Get the Reliance net connect, I have used it and it is fantastic and has more cities covered.

which plan have you been using? What speeds do you get? Cost?

The cost of the plan is Rs. 2600/ upfront for the modem cost.
the plans are varied..its better if you check them out for yourself. my friend uses the 1099 plan 3 Gb in the day time and 10Gb in the night but when he opted for this plan then he gave away the right to the free month of usage !!! so his cost comes out to be Rs. 899/

^^ Mate, I think you are confusing it with the 1x cdma or evdo.
We are talking about the 3.2 mbps net connect here, I am using it daily al over the places and have never once gone below the speeds with a give or take % of 20... at the max.
Have watched 480p youtube videos and downloaded at a true transfer speed of 250 to 300 Kbps actual data rate...

daddy heard that bsnl offers evdo device for 200 per month rent ( or 3k buy) and there is 550 bucks unlimited plan. speeds are anyday better than airtel and other log. so daddy might buy one.

^^ Dont buy it Daddy, as BSNL signals are as tough to find as finding a needle in a haystack. I have tried everything around and the best is Reliance. there is no Unlimited in any of the plans by any company in India !!!
If there was a connection which was 3.1 mbps and just for Rs. 550 bucks UNLIMITED! LOLz then do you think there would be modems left in this country.

yes. I was talking about that. 3.2 mbps are not ul though.

^^ The Broadband connection which is also caled the Broadnet has its services in 35 cities of India and its coverage is expanding rapidly, in all the other parts of the country the service is automatically switched to 1x evdo connection which is 115 kbps. but there is no roaming charge and so if one buys that connection he or she gets true internet mobility all over the country.

i got mts. speeds upto 3 mbps. best part is that it is prepaid so no bill crap and all that. downloaded 10gb on wireless till now. good stuff
