idea Suggest a Voltage Stabilizer

I need a voltage stabilizer for my 42" Plasma TV + AV receiver & 5.1 HT speaker system + HD Media Player + Set Top Box

My estimate of power consumed is as follows:
TV:250W
HT Setup: 280W
HD Player + STB: 100 W

Total : 630W

I was thinking of going for a 1kva Stabilizer. But I am clueless of what kind to buy. I donno if the usual 1kva fridge stabilizer will suffice. The conventional TV stabilizer is rated at 250va and I know I cant use that.

I want to link them up like this:
Power Point -> Stabilizer -> Surge Protector (Belkin 1.5kva) -> all the above mentioned equipment.

Let me know if this is a good idea and what would be the best stabilizer for the job, cost of the stabilizer if possible.

TIA.

Re: Suggest a Voltage Stabilizer

Dude don't do all this. I will give you a simple solution I use, that a friend advised me to. Find a showroom selling "Godrej" Stabilizers. They sell a model in the " Voltz" lineup which is meant for the entire house. Its great, really reliable comes with a 3 year warranty and can take the load of all your systems.

We use it for a ground + 1floor house 3 phases. only our Ac's are on separate stabilizers just for safety although its built to take even AC along with your other appliances.

Price 7500/- inclusive of taxes.

And I can say its reliable coz I live in a place where there are frequent power cuts thanks to load shedding (damn that MSEB can't provide proper power).

Re: Suggest a Voltage Stabilizer

I dont see the point in spending so much. In my area, the power cuts are terribly frequent. Since all the input is wired through the inverter, most of the voltage issues are already sorted. The expensive equipment (my TV, Home Theater etc), they come through belkin surge protector. PCs anyway have the UPS.

Why would you need to spend another odd 10 grands, over all this ? Beyond my understanding and I'd simply call it an overkill.

In fact at my hometown in punjab, we don't even use stablizers for the ACs. Never had a problem in last 4-5 years.

I see your point. Im using a basic 4 pin belkin itself. Right now everything is connected to the 5Amps line, and I see a lot of flickering of lights when I turn it on. So I will try to switch to the 15Amps line and see how it goes for a few days.

Re: Suggest a Voltage Stabilizer

aree itni simple cheese ko itna complicate kar diya...
there is a good stabiliser brand called logicstat and blue bird the owner of logicstat suggested just a 3 step stabiliser with high cut and low cut, which cuts electricity during volatge fluctuations... thats what u need. costs Rs.1875/-...for 1 kva

Yup I know....But when we bought the Godrej ,,... I never even knew that the Belkin surge protectore existed!!!

anyway ////... found out again its 5k not 7.5k.... Coz we got ours for 3k...made a mistake in the price before..........

and yes even with Inverter and UPS and all........there are really crazy voltage spikes in our area........ it goes really low sometimes.....

now let me see.....1 Ac failed, my fridge almost died (even with a separate stabby), Washing machine spin drier motor got busted, and tv failed ....... all this stopped after the new stabby ...... it never lets any thing harm my quipment........ especially my music system....trust me for that i would just put two of these guys.

Hi Praveen,

I am from Chennai. I have LG 32LE5500 (130 W) + Denon AVR 1911 (460 W) + DVD player + Tata Sky. I have already connected TV+DVD Player+Tata Sky to VGuard VG Crystal (2 Amps) voltage stabilizer. I am planning to buy a voltage stabilizer for AVR 1911 which I purchased recently. Please suggest whether to go for voltage stab or servo controlled stab. Where do we get servo controlled stab in Chennai. ALso suggest me the stab rating.

Thanks in advance.

Harish.
