Tell me one thing, Why should you have to jailbreak a 30k phone for adding usability. Shouldnt those free apps run out of the box.

Do you mean to say that Apple is right in what it did and the purchaser is a noob for spending 30k and not wanting to spend more time jail breaking it to be able to use all the apps available and re-jailbreaking it every time you update.

Why should anyone put all that effort after purchasing a legit phone for 30k. And here I thought people chide Sony for not allowing homebrew out of the box in the PSP.

Its the same thing here. If you dont want to put in the extra effort to jailbreak, stay away from the phone.

IIRC , If you buy the phone from vodafone and use it using their SIM etc , u dont need to jailbreak to get the apps.
Jailbreaking is only needed when you use vodafone's EDGE plans and phone plans which are not for the iPhone.

BTW jut looked up on Airtel.......if u buy an Iphone u get GPRS free with 500MB data tarnsfer ........now thats pretty coool..net on my iPhone for free!!!
And the more i am googlin the more fascinating the Iphone is becoming.....the iphone has customizability of a level i personally havent seen in any other phone................and jailbreaking is VERY Simple based on all the guides i have read so farl...and the best thing is jailbreaking ISNT EVEN ILLEGAL............and the amount of things u can do after jailbreaking i HUGE...seriouslyNES simulators to MAC style stacks...............there is EVERYTHING>.........................

On one hand you are saying that you need to jailbreak and install some free app to be able to get some basic usability feature like SMS Forward free of cost. On the other, you say its 2 times more usable than any phone on the market. So which one is true ?

The analogy you gave is not approriate. the right analogy would be like

"I bought that shiny new GPU for 30k, It would give 200 FPS in some game you rarely play, but does not allow you to play the game you like to play regularly, To be able to play that, you either have to pay someone another 5k or take the effort of hacking your card which has a minute risk of things going wrong"

It does lack a few "basic features" but the "Usability" of the phone even at complete stock is miles better than any other phone. Even the "so called ultimate iPhone killers" like N96, HTC Touch Diamond, Xperia, dont come close to the ease of use of the iPhone.

The analogy I gave is very appropriate.

You dont have to spend any extra cash on jailbreaking your phone, and there is no risk installing Jailbroken apps, and you know that to be true.
If anything ever does go wrong, a Simple Restore fixes EVERYTHING.

Your analogy doesnt make sense to me, because the iPhone does everything thats needed, and then excel's after jailbreaking.

sounds a lot like "Get that 30k GPU only if you can overclock, If you cannot, then get lost and be content with onboard graphics."

As far as I can tell, people spend that much on a GPU only to be able to use it without the need for messing around with it as soon as you buy it, overlclocking is not a foremost necessity in such a card. Same holds true for a phone, its good to have jail breaking to get more access to applications, but it should not be a necessity for getting basic features out of the phone.

Yeah, i know its free and fairly safe to do, but it was not always as simple or safe as it is now and its still an additional overhead you have to go through.
