[SOLD] WD 120GB M.2 2280 Sata SSD

Hello Friends,

Recently I had ordered WD 120GB M.2 2280 SATA SSD for my new Dell Inspiron 5575 and after waiting for 2 weeks (due to stock unavailability), it was delivered yesterday (24th Jan 2019). I was very excited because my laptop has m.2 slot so I can use an SSD along with HDD. Instead I was really disappointed. Installed the new card and it didn't detect, neither in bios nor in windows disk manager. Even I tried installing windows 10 and it also didn't show the ssd.

Later searched a lot in online forums, youtube videos and understood that my laptop only supports NVMe PCIE SSD on m.2 slot which is more expensive then the one I got. Here is the details about storage support of my laptop. Mine works only via interposer which I guess is an adapter/casing to convert m.2 to 2.5" sata but it is not helpful to me because I want to retain hdd. I did a short research before buying this SSD (M.2 SATA upto 256GB and M.2 NVMe 512GB) but it wasn't enough.

Please help me if anyone knows that I can still use this SSD on my laptop otherwise its up for sale. Also I don't have any other system that has m.2 slot.

Needless to say it now, but still you should have referred to the manual before buying. Tough luck.

If there is an optical drive, then you can use that drive's SATA 1.5Gbps port for the HDD and then use the freed HDD's SATA 6Gbps port for the "interposed" M.2 SATA SSD. Personally, I would highly recommend against that.

Well, I checked PDF manual and it had no mention about interposer.

Solid-state drive (SSD)
• M.2 SATA SSD
• M.2 NVMe SSD

Maximum configuration supported
• M.2 SATA SSD–Up to 256 GB
• M.2 NVMe SSD–Up to 512 GB

However, it is present in HTML format specs and I missed it.

Yeah my laptop has optical drive. I will wait a week and see if I can get reasonable offer for this SSD otherwise I will do as you said. M.2 to 2.5 sata and caddy costs around Rs. 500/- each.
