Smartphone Universal Translator

Going to a land where they dont speak your language. Fear not. Help might be at hanfd in the near future. Check out this new experimental software jointly devloped by Dial Directions in San Francisco and Sakhr Software Co. in Vienna, Va, that can turn an iPhone, BlackBerry or Windows Mobile device into a voice and text translator.

Check out this cool demo video of the software on an iPhone:

While it may not work as well as it should now. It shows a lot of promise and could help bridge language gaps between peoples in the future.

Yes something like this would be rather useful in a country like India where so many languages are spoken. One can even have an independent translator device not just on smart phones as apparently this takes up a lot of processing power.
