Gaming Laptop Help..

hi there again..
I was looking to buy a gaming laptop(asus g53sx/msi gt683r) from abroad and ask my brother to get it here.. but it seems unlikely as he isnt coming for next 2 years.
so i need help once again! i am looking to buy within india itself..
budget is around 75k.
i read in this forum somewhere that price of asus g74sx is 68k at nehru place delhi.. can someone confirm it?
please any other suggestions would be generous..
thanks

Re: Gaming Laptop Help..

Try to get the MSI GTxxx series, it's much better than the ASUS counterpart.

Alternatively, I suggest waiting for the Ivy Bridge based laptops, with the GTX670 or GTX675M. It's a month or two away from showing up on Indian shores.

The NDA for Ivy Bridge based laptops gets lifted on April 29th.

Re: Gaming Laptop Help..

I don't think so. The GTX670M based laptops shouldn't be more then 60-75k going by the USA price, with the markup of course. However, you might have a problem with servicing ASUS and MSI laptops.. in which case, Alienware would be the best option.

Re: Gaming Laptop Help..

While buying the new nvidia chips be aware about what you're getting. The gtx660m and 680m are the new 28nm kepler chips. The 670 and 675 are rebadged 40nm fermi chips.

Look up detailed specs and benchmark scores at notebookcheck.

As far as build or models goes, I'll highlight the good and bads about them afaik

ASUS G75xx
Good:
1. Good design (IMHO). Rubberized finish is very resistant to wear.
2. Relatively slim profile
3. User cleanable fans and dust filters
4. They always have pretty good panels.
5. The new re-inforced and supposedly zero flex keyboard.
6. 2 Year international warranty is default.
Bads:
1. No scope for MXM upgrade as the gpu is fused onto mobo
2. Not offering the highest end gtx680m at any point

MSI GT70
Good:
1. Aluminium chassis
2. Full freedom for upgrade-ability
3. Nifty steelseries keyboard
4. Good speakers

Bad:
1. Gaudy design (IMHO)
2. Not a bad in particular but i'm not sure which screens they're using in the new laptops. Check out which one it is before buying because the stock screen on their previous iteration was awful.

Alienware:
I dont think they've refreshed their lineup as yet with ivybridge and kepler yet, but..
Good:
Solid build
Nice cooling
Good screens
Good keyboard
Full freedom for upgrade-ability
Bad:
Pay extra for international warranty
Bit more expensive than competition

Re: Gaming Laptop Help..

I should say you to wait for ivy bridge laptops. They won't be available at the price you think like 1lac. They will be available at normal sandy bridge laptop price range. The gaming laptops of ivy bridge will be 60-70k or so. And those will also be with kepler .

Re: Gaming Laptop Help..

They won't be with Kepler for now, at least not the top end. The GTX670M/GTX675M is still better than the GTX660M, although it does consume more power and is hotter, but the Optimus switching should help regarding the same.

The GTX680M will be out of your budget, and it's still some time away.

I wish we had resellers in India building upon the MSI Barebones Whitebooks, which is the best VFM route you can take. My latest laptop is a MSI barebones built by XoticPC, and it's an absolute beast for the price.

Re: Gaming Laptop Help..

Why would India's high end dealers/distri not interested in importing these gaming laptops in India.. ? What might be a possible cause?
