Seagate or Toshiba HDD - Which One to Choose

Hello Friends,

I want buy a new 2TB hdd for my desktop for data storage and gaming sometimes. I have come across WD Blue, Seagate Barracuda and Toshiba P300 under my budget.

WD blue (which used to be green before) has 5400 RPM spindle and I had one green drive failed so I don't want to consider it. Indeed RPM doesn't make much difference but I prefer 7200 RPM for desktop and 5400 RPM for laptop.

In Seagate Barracuda there are two models, ST2000DM005 and ST2000DM006. Former is again 5400 RPM and most of the sellers have this HDD in stock. But later is only available in encoded.in website. Others who have listed it don't have in stock, even in amazon. I have contacted most of the sellers.

Finally there is Toshiba P300 available in thetdepot website for reasonable price.

My experience with HDDs is mixed up. One of my WD Green 1TB failed after its warranty period as well as Seagate Backup Plus External HDD. At present I have Seagate 7200.14 1TB and WD Black 1TB; both are performing well since many years. As of Toshiba, I have never bought one so no idea.

So please advice which one is good or if there is any better then what I have mentioned above. Also let me know how is RMA or warranty service of Toshiba.

Thanks...
Best Regards

Re: Seagate or Toshiba HDD - Which One to Choose

If it's any help in making your decision - - avoid Seagate. I've had bad experiences with every Seagate HDD I've owned - - 6 of them in total, all failed within 18 months. That can't be just a coincidence - - now I never buy that brand, always WD ones for me.

I've only owned 1 Toshiba HDD and that failed within 2 years, although since it was the only one I've bought, could just have been bad luck with that particular drive. I certainly wouldn't slate Toshiba drives just because I had a bad one.

Regards,
Adrian
