Seagate Goflex Home - Assistance Needed in Set-up

Hello everyone!

i hope am posting this in the correct section.

i have the dock in subject. have a FreeAgent Goflex 500 GB 2.5" portable HDD to go with it. however, when connected to the dock through the SATA port, only the green light comes up and becomes stable. the white light doesn't come up. i have the latest version of seagate dashboard (seagate dashboard 2.0, as well as seagate dashboard powered by memeo) installed. those too don't recognise any drive connected. the HDD is working fine otherwise, when connected to the PC through USB. please note:

- i want to use the NAS for mainly torrent-downloads.
- as per the seller, a torrent-client is already installed by him, on default factory firmware, and no linux knowledge is needed for operation (which i anyway don't have).
- he had provided me with a username and password, and the addresses to access the torrent-client and the NAS portal, but they don't open.
- my router is MTNL/Beetel 450TC1, and DHCP is enabled.
- windows firewall does have exception added for seagate dashboard.
- turning off the antivirus program wasn't of any use as well.

please suggest what could be done. even a link to any blog/page that describes how to set this up and troubleshoot this 'drive not recognised' issue would be good. looking forward to some suggestions.

thanks!

I dont think it can be installed in its nand.
You should try for archlinux.
I am using many these nas devices as a home server

damn! i think i should sell it off. not my cup of tea, esp. without some guidance.

pogoplug seems to be a better proposition.

Burst from a cyanogen-fed Pantech P9070 'Burst'.

I dont think you will be getting a pogoplug
As all models are oxnas now.
Your better bet will be to use this device only as its kirkwood and more archlinux friendly

BTW, how's the pogoplug listed for 2125/- on grabmore (unable to post the link here; don't know why)?!

hehe...ok...thanks for clearing that up! was immensely helpful.
PMing you.

BTW, read this on seagate forums:

The lower, white light is for the drive. If it is not on then the drive is not installed properly. Try removing the drive from the base and plugging it back into the base unit.

The upper Orange/Green light shows whether the base unit is connected to the network correctly. If that's green then the base unit is working and connected.

am having the same issue. makes me think that my HDD is incompatible or what.

Ofcourse torrent can be installed on nand. I am assuming u have already checked your router client list for a possible ip that could be resolving to the go flex. U may also try ping. If u have an android phone try using network discovery tool to sniff the ips on your lan.

Thanks Dheeraj! So i see that you are present here as well.

I will register myself on that forum and have a look.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

An IP has been assigned to the GFH. however, i believe the ports are being blocked (the usual 21, 22, 443, 80). however, i did try to open them, but seagate's online port-checker still tells them as closed. either the GFH itself is blocking them, or it is the router. am inclined to believe its the latter. its a stupid router from MTNL, if i can say that. i tried it after disabling the firewall of the router too, enabled UPnP as well, to no avail!

I fail to understand. U need port forwarding only when u want access from the Internet. For local ie within ur lan usage u dont need port forwarding to access the services.

Re: Seagate Goflex Home - Assistance Needed in Set-up

@all

Everyone on gfn or gfh can update the uboot for support with newer kernels and move on to wheezy debian from squeeze. This will get you all current updates and pacakages. It is strongly suggested that you try this with a spare usb drive before spoiling your primary boot disk.
@The Outsider

You're welcome
