Require International Sim Card ( for USA )

So i will be travelling to the US towards the end of this month. And I would like to be in touch with the dear wifey thru cellphone.

I checked online for availability of connections around LAX airport, but nothing fruitful came up.

Found this site -

World SIM

Gives free incoming in the US. Which is great, i can use the sim in one of the spare phones that i generally carry and atleast use incoming services.

But need advise, anyone used this? Any cheaper alternates.

I would like free incoming, so that using a International calling coupon on her phone, she can call me for low calling rates ( 4-5 rs / min )

Wherever there will be wifi connection available to me, ill be connected thru Nimbuzz, and I can make calls using their VOIP services, around 3 cents a minute from the US to India. So thats resolved.

Need a solution on this guys.

Thanks in Advance and reps to the best solution!!!

Re: Require International Sim Card ( for USA )

get a US sim from matrix. they have a $1 a day plan which gives some free minutes per day and get a BSNL/MTNL sim for back home which has a low calling rate of Rs 1 per min to the US. For making local calls try skype or magicjack both of which have reasonable unlimited plans, but require an internet connection which is not hard to get there (free WiFi FTW)

Re: Require International Sim Card ( for USA )

its always best to call up and negotiate a good plan with various companies. call around to get the best deal.

most plans do not have unlimited free incoming ,but have a certain number of minutes and all incoming/outgoing calls are deducted from that

my personally used companies are

http://www.matrix.in

http://www.clay.co.in

Re: Require International Sim Card ( for USA )

Thanks for helping out man... As of now i think ill be going with the worldsim thing above. 1500 rs for a sim + 10 $ talk time.

a 57 rs recharge on idea gives 1p/second calling for 300 minutes and then 1.99rs / min after that ISD.

I have an Idea prepaid connection lying with me.

So clubbing the 2, i think in about 2-3k it should be a comfortable 2 weeks for us.

Re: Require International Sim Card ( for USA )

If you are only going to go to the USA, I would recommend getting a USA specific SIM card. The best coverage will be on AT&T's network. There are many MVNOs that use AT&T but, I think that the best plan is AT&Ts $50 a month for unlimited data, voice and text. Pick up a SIM card here as they ship worldwide for $3 United States SIM Card then add sufficient call credit and activate the unlimited plan.

Re: Require International Sim Card ( for USA )

Huh?..

When you land in USA, walk into AT&T or T-Mobile and simply buy a Prepaid SIM?.. Why bother wasting money on Matrix and all that crap?

Thats what I am saying, I went to one and the cheapest option they had was a sim + phone for about 80$. I asked for prepaid sim cards, and they said they dont have that, only combo deals.

The US sim card thing in the first post, has free incoming, which is what i primarily require. Data as suggested above, would be a plus!

Edit - its 12.5rs a minute incoming or outgoing. too expensive!

Re: Require International Sim Card ( for USA )

Swap the SIM with the phone you want to use :S..

Back in 05, we bought a SIM+Phone from Cingular (I think), for like 10$, and we used the SIM in my moms phone.
The SIM came loaded with minutes/texts as well.

Why do you want to carry a SIM from here and go? Use airport wifi or payphones to notify your loved onxlwa.

Re: Require International Sim Card ( for USA )

^^ Im gonna be on the move, and gonna be spending a lot of time with no access to a landline/wifi. So thats why planning a cell phone. I always have my office phone on international roaming, but can use it only till about 2-3k for personal use.. thats about 25-30 minutes of talking for the whole 2 weeks.

Besides I will be expecting official calls on this sim as well ( save the company some bills and then expense this sim under company expenses ). So Im expecting a lot of Incoming calls.
