Have you tried Swype? If yes, get that. Sent you a link to certain site. Please read.

Do root using SuperOneClick. If you ever do get any issues, you can easily unroot, no need to worry about that.

Get:
Tasker
Launcher Pro (Alternative launcher, my personal fav)
exDialer
TV Show Favs
Go SMS!
Folder organizer
PowerAmp.
ROM Tool Box.

Rest is honestly hard to recommend, unless you ask for something specific.

Re: Planning to Try Android... Is This a Good Deal?

PM checked.. Thank you.. Btw, i just read the terms and conditions of the offer, the data pack is for the sim on that particular IMEI number of the cell phone. So it dont really matter which OS i run. So guys! Now please tell me 2 things -

1) How to take a backup of the current default OS, so that i can revert back to it if needed.

2) Whats a smooth version/flavor to install on this phone, that unlocks the rest of the RAM and as well as gives me what i needed in the first place -

- Smooth browsing
- FB widget
- Texting
- Email updates ( gmail as well as yahoo )
- Texting should be a breeze

1. First root. Install Custom Recovery (@ManISinJpr and @Free Radical can recommend the correct one). Do a Nandroid backup (A backup that copies the images of the data/system and can be restored to make the phone exactly like when it was backed up).

2. Again, the above two mentioned gentlemen are your best friends. As for the rest of the stuff, here is my two cents.
- Dolphin/Opera
- LauncherPro with the FB widget is the best from my experience
- Use the default gmail app, which works quite well and the also the default email app
- GoSMS is the best for this. No serious tweaks required; use the threaded view and the pop-up option is very very neat for quick read and replies.
- Get from the source I sent in PM.

1.) I'd go with clockwork mod recovery :-) install it and perform a Android backup from there.

2.) After you have installed cwm you might wanna flash cm 7.2 with it :-)

Re: Planning to Try Android... Is This a Good Deal?

downloaded and installed CM 7.1 Looks great, runs well too, however could not operate the camera, or connect to wi-fi.

When i would switch on wi-fi, it would switch off automatically after 10 seconds or so. And was not detecting my wifi network. So i had to manually enter the details, however it would switch off by the time i would enter the details.

There was some swedish mod to run the camera. I tried installing that but then the phone wont boot up. I booted it in recovery mode, and then the best bit, managed to revert back to the original image in no time. So The phone is rooted ( i finally understood what than meant... otherwise it just meant a planted phone or something to me ). But now i need a good ROM, that lets me operate everything properly, and maybe unlock the 256 mb of ram.

Though i have a bad bad feeling, this phone has 256 mb only ( physically ).

Massive reps and deep respect for the help provided by hnp and moz ( conference call! )

Re: Planning to Try Android... Is This a Good Deal?

^^ The ROM you are talking about is Swedish spring
I used it extensively on my blade.. and I am surprised that your phone has only 256 mb ram..

Is your phone Gen 1 or gen 2??

also try to restart your wifi router.. it helps sometimes..
then see if wifi works, CM 7.1 is just too over hyped, I never liked it one bit !!!
