everyone here wants that buddy.. I would be very happy with a 1 mbps UL connection at that price and it would suffice most people's needs here unless the storage becomes dirt cheap...

I beg you not to imagine such futures, anyway I wont be in it.
I'll be in Japan in <5 years time.

I'll be browsing at those speeds on my DoCoMo mobile.

Oh well - back to reality......... .

Re: OMG OMG : Caps on Unlimited Broadband Plans

'50 gb' for 1mbps. how' that?

i observe that most service companies have much better service offferings ( be it phone, bb or just about anything) in delhi than karnataka.

i hope this fup gets out the window. i guess airtel thot 'i pawn all' when putting this in place. but the bandwidth huggers will hugg another isp, that what they dint realise when they put it in public.

Re: OMG OMG : Caps on Unlimited Broadband Plans

my emailed complaint to TRAI:
Hello,

this is regarding the 'fair usage policy' that some ISP' are reccomending. as i understand, this is an attempt to implement what ISP' are doing in other countries. it would be acceptable if the speeds and download caps were also implemented, along with the pricing, QoS.
airtel ( and other isp) will have to a. stop quoting the connections as "unlimited" if there is a download/upload realted speed throttling;b. stop charging premium rates for these connections, over other normal capped connections;c will have to stop quoting the connections as broadband if the throttled speed is less than 256kbps.
now, as per what i was made to understand by the customer care of airtel, my 256kbps unlimited plan will now have a cap of 15gb ( it is not clear how it will be measured and whether both download and upload data will be measured?) and after that, my speed would be throttled back to 128kbps. this makes it illegal to call such a plan a
broadband connection. additionaly, i have observed that the rates for all the unlimited plans have been increased, along with applying the fair usage policy. that makes it obvious that the move is more about delivering less for more money than ensuring equity of service for all users.
i would like to know if TRAI endorses this policy and if yes, what is the justification ? why are the more demanding customers termed as 'bandwidth huggers' if they were promised unlimited traffic at a fixed speed for a fixed price? as per my understanding, unlimited connections should ensure that the user gets the maximum bandwidth promised for maximum possible time ( without any intentional throttling by the service provider) irrespective of the amount of data transfer that happens during the period of billing. i would also like to question the move of increasing the tariffs for these unlimited plans when it is a known fact that bandwidth rates can only decrease with more and more availability as the days pass. ISP' like sify, airtel, reliance must first adhere to basic connectivity promises before they can even think of implementing policies that are applied in countries that have uncomparably high QoS and much lesser cost of usage ( average broadband bill as a fraction of average income).

a customer cheated in the name of unlimited internet plans

Re: OMG OMG : Caps on Unlimited Broadband Plans

sahil and ad1 -> depends on lot of things! ... (no ISP can be said to be universally best!)

In place XYZ, I had Reliance WiMax which was amazingly fast but I had to wait 3-4 days
at times to get a problem resolved. (also there was billing issues, minor ones though!)

In current place, I get awesome service! (< day!) ... cable cuts, ping problem -> they solve
it pretty quick. Hell, they phone me and ask "sir do you feel like coming to office and pay the bill?".
I say "No" . They send a guy to my place to collect the amount due .

Be happy with you have , download some HD stuff and stop proclaiming how your ISP is best Ad1.

I've had Airtel ADSL(in Noida) for about 2 years now, with no more than a sum total of 2 days of downtime. I had Reliance ADSL(in pune) for about 3 months, with about 45 days of downtime. Needless to say, it didn't pay Reliance a single penny!

very true reliance broadband service ***** big time... and they are fu(king lairs i used to have their broadband and i like threw it in thier face when they sucked.

i read their response PDF and see what a pissing lie they told in that.

"A broadband user with 256 Kbps speed can download around 22 GB per day"

dam the fu(king lairs iam sure this would have ever been accomplished by any one ever in this planet downloading 22GB with 256kbps..... amazing math bravo ambani a####.

having said that what airtel is doing now is aslo really bad and i am sure they gonna loose a lot of customers like me who have got 3 connections from them only for the reason i liked their quality of service.....airtel ur starting too **** big time now in terms of this limit!!!

i called up airtel club royal e help desk and found out that the limit for 512 is 40gig and after that it will become 256 (when the rep said this he got a fine peice of my mind
) however the 1mbps remains unlimited even now and a manager promised me that. but its only for the existing 1mbps users as no new connections are offered in 1mbps as if now.

Re: OMG OMG : Caps on Unlimited Broadband Plans

Rajapraveen hates reliance now, since I said I like it! ..

@ Sahil, You haven't seen the kind of service and internet of the other ISP's available in my area.

One - My local cable walla provides "5net" which ***** to the core. Unlimited plans of 256kbps have speeds of 20KB/s, 512kbps have 40KB/s.
Limited plans only 1, Rs.1100 for "Upto 8mbps" Limit = 3GB, Night Unlimited.
When its night, it gets restricted to 300kbps ie. 40KB/s... Which is their minimum guaranteed speed.

Another one is Hathway, whos speeds are decent enough, 55-60KB/s on a 512kbps connection, but service ***** big time. Downtime isnt high, but Billing dept. *****.
They usually send a guy for picking up the cheque, but then he doesnt come and they disconnect the internet. This happens EVERY MONTH.

Reliance WiMax for the last 2 months, downtime of maybe a day (total), once due to my mistake (didnt log out, and when I tried to login again, authentication failed), so more like 1-2 hours of downtime.
Speeds are higher than promised. Upload speeds are more than DL speeds.
Its all that somebody could ask for.
When I had an issue, they genuinely resolved it.
When the downtime happened, I got a mail apologizing for the inconvinience, and once i got a warning that the net would be down for about 30 minutes (at 4am - 4.30am) for server maintenance.

Never have I had servic even remotely as good as this, so I dont care what your experience is. It absolutely rocks in my area.

There is not one other ISP, which can provide this to me. Even TATA refused to give me a connection, even though they have a node right opposite my place.

i guess u were saying 256KBps actual download speed and not Kbps cause there is a huge difference.

here what reliance said:

A broadband user with 256 Kbps speed can download around 22 GB per day, it stands to reason that a 400 MB bundle, stretched over a month, will result in a fraction of on-line time over the course of the month.

and they said 400mb bundle ? if we take as what u have mentioned with 2Mbps..... i guess the mistake was with the number 22 where they got to put 2GB approx per day... and that is the mistake.

reliance wimax in india is brilliant
like i said, my friend paid the money and filled the forms, and his net started in two days, less than the promised three days..
@ raja : i guessed they fgot to put a dot, they must have meant 2.2 GB
