This is indeed bad news. The point that everyone seems to miss out on though is the billing. Caps on a connection means F'ed up billing. These private companies have made millions this way and a lot of users are submissive because they don't understand that broadband in India is a farce. Sooner or later, every 5th guy/girl would be in a consumer court wasting their time and money.

well, i called up the CC. 25 gb limit on the 256 kbps connection that i have. therafter, it will be 128kbps. bsnl has a promotion scheme on.... rebates and all for today and tomm... m STRONGLY considering it!

somebody explain the procedure to me?

If Airtel is capping 256kbps at 10gb.why dont they provide 10mbps speeds,I mean If I have to download 10gb in total I might as well download it as fast as possible and save on power bills,and then maybe directly reduce it to 128kbps after that or something.:\ man they **** both ways,neither can they provide decent speeds nor decent pings and nor decent UL plans now.

edit: called again: told 35gig first..then asked limit of 384kbps...then corrected.. 256>15g, 384>25g.
anyway, ill drop it like a hot potato the day they throttle it.

Ok, I just spoke to the Airtel guy and what he said was a little different.

1. He said they've removed some of the existing plans (probably to be revamped)

2. He said I won't get charged for additional downloads and my plan remains exactly the same

3. He said from today they've introduced a cap on Billing which applies to limited plans,
he gave me an example of some current limited plan that is charged at Rs.555 month + additional charges if the 2GB a month d/l limit is exceeded. Now this plan will not be billed over Rs.2250 how much ever the user's excess downloads are.

The bill limit varies with the speed of the plan. So a 2Mbps plan may have a limit of Rs. 5000 or something and you won't get billed for anything above that.


I have a feeling this guy has got the information wrong. Sounds very different from what everyone else is saying

I called the Noida customer care centre a while back. The executive has no knowledge of any such policy(I made him double check with his senior).

I'm gonna drop this connection if they cap me. They sent me a bill of Rs.45,000 when I had an 8GB cap on my 512 KBps connection. It took me 2 months and a written confirmation from the Regional manager to convince these idiots that I hadn't downloaded anything above it.
