Re: newegg build - need your inputs.

I'd say i7. Especially since you plan not to upgrade for a while.
BUT -- It'll cost you :/
Gimme a sec, I'll hunt around the Egg for you

EDIT:

Here

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115202
Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128375
RAM1: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820220368
RAM2: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231223
GFX: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102770
PSU1: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139006
PSU2: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139005

Taking the cheapest of the above the total comes to approx $800
But it will be a reasonable config for quite a while.

I can hunt around for some S775 too if your budget is very strict.

^^ Why?.. It performs worse and costs roughly the same.

Re: newegg build - need your inputs.

i was planing phenom but the only good board i could find was the Asus M3A79-T DELUXE which is round 188$ on newegg. so i would be spending round the same as a i7 50/100 here or there. unless i go DFI and save round 40$ ... this builds gonna be a pain 2 get through hahaha at that budget too many choices / kido and ad1 / any suggestions?

Compared to? Give competition a chance so that AMD can fire back.

Re: newegg build - need your inputs.

Intel Q6600 189$ or wait for Q9400 219$ after price cut
Gigabyte P45 UD3R 119$
Corsair Dominators 1066MHz 2x2GB 74$
XFX HD 4850 512MB 169$
Corsair HX 520W Modular 109$

Total - US $ 660

4850 is enough for 720p gaming, get dual slot XFX only. HX 520 will handle even GTX 280, and very silent PSU, modular.

Compared to Core i7. And in fact even compared to a high end S775 rig
Why give something a chance for the heck of it?
He needs something that he can build and forget about for a few years at least, which is why i7 would be the best bet.
I dunno if any AM3 pre-release stuff is out, but I somehow doubt that the result would be too promising anyway :/

Re: newegg build - need your inputs.

stonesurd you do try to help don't you I appreciate that.
most of your choices are fine, except I also suggest 4850 as a gfx card will be more thatn enough for his kind of gaming, also if he doesn't want to go in for i7 for whatever reason ( maybe he wants more than 6GB ddr3 in his setup ) then phenom II will be the best choice.
Phenom II runs on present ddr2 RAM and is a good option. he can have good 8GB 1066 ram in place of 6 GB 1333.
Bye
