Need to Get a P&S Camera. But Which One?

Hey guys,
I need to buy a nice P&S for myself since carrying my 550D everywhere I go is not possible most of the time. I basically need a one with good zoom and image quality. Not bothered too much about the megapixels or video rec (although all of them have HD rec now a days). These are the models I've zeroed in on.

Canon SX230 HS
12mp, 14x, 5 - 70mm

Nikon S9100
16mp, 18x, 4.5 - 81mm

Sony HX 9V
16mp, 16x, 4.28 - 68.48mm

The cam will almost always be used in the auto mode and needs to be good in low light conditions. I've had a Sony P&S before but have never really used a Nikon on a Canon P&S so got no clue how they actually perform.

So help me decide guys. And btw, are there any other models coming out early this year?

Thanks in advance!

Just got this one.. Panasonic HX-DC1

It's actually a Point and Shoot HD Camcorder that does pretty decent pics. (14 MP)

Image quality of the Canon model is slightly better than the Sony in outdoor conditions. In low light canon is way better than the HX9V. HX9V though has wider zoom and is better suited for for landscape photography when compared to the canon (wide angle lens - 24mm compared to canon's 28mm)

This may sound stupid but since all of them have the same sized CMOS sensor, wouldn't the quality be similar??

I'm kinda leaning towards the Nikon at the moment cuz it seems to have a few more built in features than the rest.

Sent from my Asus Transformer.

That does look good but I don't think a video cam will be able to match the image quality of a still cam.

Nope. They use different BSI CMOS sensors. Sony uses Exmor R, canon probably uses a different high sensitive BSI sensor. Sensor quality differs between sensor chip manufacturers.
Sensor size/ type is an important factor in deciding the image quality, but not the only one - lens quality and image processing engine also determine the quality of the image.

Thanks guys. I guess I'll go and check out the Canon sometime this week.

No recommendations for the Nikon? Specs seem to be better than the others, atleast on paper

Found these review videos on YouTube. Only if there was a video in which they actually compare them side by side.

Canon

Nikon

Sony
