If USB is not compulsory, i suggest going for the WD My Book Live instead.
Better NAS performance + 3 yrs warranty.

a little beyond your budget, but check this:

The Outsider
had seen that

realandR3cys
had checked out the wd my book live before. iomega also comes with 3yrs warranty.
was thinking iomega as there was a possibility of opening the unit to get access to the hdd incase of any problem to try & recover the data before sending for replacement.
have sent 2 hdds for replacement in the past 2 months, an external seagate expansion 2tb which took all my data with it & a wd 500gb with bad sectors which didnt really have any data on it.
was afraid of breaking the locks while opening the seagate expansion, which would void the warranty. so didnt do it as it wasnt of that much importance.

Fair enough
It's upto you now. But AFAIK, the HDD of the Iomega NAS is not user-servicable. It has a locked in HDD.

Also i was seeing some hefty complains about software and speeds, on various buying sites. You may want to look into that before you proceed.

Just my $0.02

I also read some people complaining about not being able to replace the hdd which comes in the iomega with another. but, seen that incase of the iomega going bust you could open it remove the hdd & connect it to any system running linux, so as to backup data.

btw, is it possible to replace hdd which comes on wd my book live with any other without any problems or is it the same as in the case of the iomega?

also, do i have any other options?
my requirement is to download torrents 24X7 without keeping my desktop ON, with the least power consumption. dont have any knowledge about linux either.

Yes. You can replace the HDD.
It involves just some patience and experience, though it's a hefty work.
Opening the case isn't that hard work though.

Other options? Well, there was Seagate, like The Outsider mentioned.
But My Book Live gets my vote for the most ease of use, easy to setup and low power consumption.
Added to that WD's great after-sales!

realandR3cys
do you own a wd my book live?
btw, powercut can also corrupt the memory of nas if improperly shutdown?

all i want is to download torrents 24X7 without pc being ON.
wouldnt mind waiting a while if i gotta go over budget to get the right thing for the job.

Yes. I used to own a My Book (previous ver. of My Book Live).
And yes, if you have no UPS, then your data have high possibility of getting corrupted.

Re: Need Advise/Inputs: Considering Buying HOME NAS

do have a ups which lasts about 20mins with pc without screen, but powercut period is uncertain here. mostly it will be unattended, even though ups has auto shutdown feature with software monitoring. but that will need pc to be on
been considering a home inverter/ups since sometime. guess i should be getting the home ups first.

but still i wanna make sure which is the best option for me when it comes to downloading torrents without pc, so that when am ready i can just go ahead and buy one. so price really isnt a factor anymore.

Go for a seagate goflex home. Hack it to run debian/arch or optware and sleep in peace.
