Is My Current I7 4770k @ 4.5GHz a Bottleneck?

Hi All,

I am currently running the following config:
i7 4770k @ 4.5GHz cooled by Swiftech H320
MSI Z87 MPower
2*4GB Corsair 2133MHz
2*Tri-X R9 290 @ 1060MHz core and 1350MHz Mem
Asus Xonar D2X
OS and Games running off a Samsung 840 500GB SSD
Currently running a 1920x1080 res, however will be going 4k by next week

In games like Watch Dogs with update 3 and BF4 I see CPU usage shooting to 55%.
MSI Afterburner shows that both GPUs are being used 100%.

What I am not sure if my current CPU/Mobo combo is holding the R9 290 CF back in anyway.
The current mobo support CF/SLI in PCI 3.0 x8/x8.
Also the Xonar D2X is running off PCI-E x1.

GPU-Z does show that both cards are running @ 3.0 x8.

Would it be any better if I get this Buy Online ASUS Rampage IV Black Edition Motherboard in India and i7 4930k?

Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Just an FYI, all games are running at the max possible settings for 1920x1080 res.

the one which is running at 100% is the bottle neck.

simple logic. the CPU only needs to work "half" as hard too keep up with the card(s)

Try interchanging the cards or GPU like swapping their slots. Problem was with old drivers as well and is it limited to a couple of games or all of it ?

Re: Is My Current I7 4770k @ 4.5GHz a Bottleneck?

I have interchanged the card slots.
My concern is the CPU usage.
With most games its stays like 35-45%.

Keep the CPU @ stock and then check its usage. Try it for a day by putting to stress while playing all those games .

Also check in the task manager,i hope your computer is not affected by a malware etc.

Re: Is My Current I7 4770k @ 4.5GHz a Bottleneck?

Apart from gaming, CPU is at 0-3% usage.
Its not a malware related issue.
Only use the system for gaming and movies.

Would upgrading top X79 help things for the CF?
Also since X99 is round the corner, would it make sense to get X79?

Well i dont think that your current config will be a bottleneck. Moreover you have overclocked it enough .

You Mobo is perfectly alright it can handle your config without a issue. If you high graphics games the gpu usage will always be at 100% dont worry about that Make sure the temperature is below 90C. And about the CPU its also fine If you want to see the full usage of CPU then Download Handbrake video converter and try to convert any movie with large size it will utilize the CPU Usage at MAX.

About the New proccy i7 4930k If your are into Video editing, rendering,Converting You can go for 4930k Which will give you 30% Performance improvement over your current proccy. But by seeing this thread You are using it for only gaming and other stuffs You dont need an upgrade. Your current config will last probably for atleast 2 years.
