Mobile phone contacts backup and restore - mobyko

Bookmark and Share

hi guys,
dunno if this the right forum to be posting this - but I started using this online sync service called mobyko. It claims to be regulated by the UK govt. so follows all privacy guidelines.

Just wanted to share the way to get it working here. Once you sync your phone, all the contacts are available in your online web interface and you can restore it on a new phone (Mobyko | Login).

To sign up:
You need a SyncML enabled phone. I have a Nokia 6300 and it works on that.

1. goto mobyko.com and sign up with ur mobile #
2. It will send an SMS to your phone (yes even Indian phones)

After you sign up - it sends automatic settings to your phone. These do NOT work well. Instead, use this manual set up.
[Though this is adapted from the guide at mobyko, the settings and options have suitably changed and I have modified them accordingly]
  • 1. From the main menu, select "Settings", "Configuration" then "Personal configuration settings".
  • 2. Press "Options" then select "Add new", "Synchronisation".
  • 3. Select the "Account name" and set this to Mobyko.
  • 4. Set the "Server address" to http://sync.mobyko.com/
  • 5. Set the "User name" to your Mobyko username, (the same one you would use for online sign-in) and click OK.
  • 6. Set the "Password" to your Mobyko password (the same one you would use for online sign-in) and click OK. You will be asked to verify the password by entering it again.
  • 7. Select "Contacts database" then enter "contact" (yes.. the exact word) in the Database address field and click OK.
  • 8. Press "Back" once to return to the Synchronisation settings screen.
  • 9. Select "Use preferred access pt." and select "No".
  • 10. Select "Access point settings" and enter the following:
Proxy: Enable
Proxy address: 100.1.200.99
Proxy port: 8080
Data bearer: Packet data
Bearer settings:
Packet data access point: airtelfun.com
Authentication type: Normal
User name:
Password:
  • 11. Press 'Back' to save the changes.
  • 12. You're done.
If you have any problems, please call your normal Customer Service number.
Nokia 6300 - Syncing
Once you've set up your Nokia 6300 as described above, to perform an actual "sync", just follow these steps:
  • 1. From the main menu, select "Settings".
  • 2. From the Settings screen select "Connectivity", "Data transfer".
  • 3. Select "Options", "Edit" the "Synchronisation settings"
  • 4. Select "Configuration" then select "Personal configuration"
  • 5. Select "Account" then select Mobyko
  • 6. Press "Back" once and select "Data to be synchronised".
  • 7. Select Contacts, then press "Mark".
  • 8. Press "Back" three times to save the changes then select "Server synchronisation"
  • 9. Wait for the handset to show "Synchronise selected data? Mobyko" then click the OK button
