Well mate ... i have used both mac and iPhone .. but why i chose not to use them regularly is that i hate Apple. Now when you hate a company, the normal course of action would be not to use it instead of maintaining double standards.

I used Mac for sometime, that too because it allowed Windows on it. I tried to force myself to use OSx for sometime, but could not. Windows anyways is a clear leader in Platforms for many years now. I need not talk about SQL Server. Many people say its the largest used RDBMS because its cheap. If thats the case then what do have to people say about other free softwares. Couple of places, where I see people using free software and being happy are VLC player and Mozilla..(Now dont jump on me saying I use Li#$x and am happy. My neighbour doesnt use computer and is happy...so??)

Now that google is on top you can start seeing the impact (negative). So many people startinn to point fingers at google. Yesterday I read (some big gun) comparing Google to Electronic vampire, evil, so on and so forth. Who ever on top is going to be the target. So does MS despite its great products.

Moreover I dont think Xbox 360 or Zune is beaten as it is portrayed in this thread.

Fact is, nerds making software (Open source) would be liked by nerds (mostly). But for common people like me (who are not nerds) we need softwares that are simple to use and charming to use.

Edit: Apple is not at all better than MS. Apple loots customers by selling stuff at such a high price but atleast they r innovating. They single handidly changed by mobile world by releasing iPhone and now age old mobile companies r trying to copy Apple.

I have been also using Mac for a very long time, but they will not understand, eve much before the time when they were running with candies an lollies..
I follow the same theory now. I dont use a companies product if I dont like it. ( but I experiment, a little ) and as for games, there will never be a time when apple will let the games run at the same speed as MS..even then they say MS is slow...such an innovative company couldnt even make an os that runs games. (what innovation )

Well Making a 8th grade guy in a village learn computer and getting him just enough skills sothat he can work in a office as an office assistant or clerk, that is what MS does best...I have seen it with my own eyes. with a NGO.
Secondly Google is and always was evil, no no it does not kill guys and drinks their blood but it is secretly storing everything that people are feeding it, it even reads through the emails. I wont ever use it for private or business emails...ever.
The sales figures of the Xbox360 and the Zune speak for themselves, if somebody cant see them then they are totally ignorant or biased...
Fourthly, yes that is what is needed. choices of softwares that one can use to get his work done..with Apple, my friend couldn't even use the full 8 Gigs of ram he installed in his Mac Pro as it was not supported ( apple Pshop being able to run on 32 bit only, and then they have the balls to say that they innovate..MS had a 64 bit os since I dont know how long? )

Your definition of nerd does matches with people who you can actually call nerd.
A nerd or a geek can be someone who just uses technology, not limited to computers.

And your perception that such nerds only like software written by nerds is outcome of your own perception, which you seem to have formed because you have seen people bashing M$ who predominantly use FOSS.

Do not worry about what many people say. Did you use MS SQL server, if yes then I ll take your statement with respect. Using MS SQL for being cheap is no reason to use it. Security and scalability are much more important than cheapness. And trust me enterprise market takes it very seriously.

In what I came to know, Oracle is a tank, which is difficult to drive but it still pwns everything out there.

I have one of my very good friends at M$.

I see his emails from M$ technical staff on various mailing lists and trust me they do not live in a world of denial as some people live about M$. They are really smart people who admit that they were amazed by iPod, Chrome and Linux. I once found an interesting thread on their Algorithm mailing list, where a researcher ranted on how good was iPod at doing what it does and where Zune su(ked.He basically gave all HCI fundas along with some technical details. Plus last i checked Zune Vs iPod sales figures on Amazon they were overwhelmingly in Apple's favour. If this has changed so drastically then I must be really outdated for sure.
And no I do not love Apple, so please spare the stick for someone else .

Also, one of M$ researched gave a really nice description of how Linux kernel manages CPUs in ranges of > 1000, very beautifully. He was actually studying the Linux kernel when he came to know that there is literally no Windows cluster in worlds top 100 Supercomputers.

I remember reading an article where major M$ shareholder seeked explaination from M$ management on despite spending more than 8 billion $$ in R&D everywhere why can't they produce products like Apple, which spends 1/8th of that amount. How much this is true can be disputed. Feel free to dispute.

Yes about the point I highlighted, these same people are the main buyers of computers, it is not people like you or me..we are just a very small part of the whole system.
Mac OS share rose sharply as it is so small, I think you have heard about penny stocks..they rise and fall more than the real Blue chip shares but are in no way a threat to the Blue chips...they come, they rise and they vanish..read between the lines.
Apple is an older company than MS and still does not have a significant market share, is it not a joke?
Maybe its rise is aligned to the rise of the new rich guys...like you or others who have to look different in any way possible.

I work in M$ and I may know SQL and its internal working (not T-SQL) more than anyone here in this forum..

I fairly believe Open source has more power than any Inc. But too many cooks would eventually spoil the broth. Energy would not be channeled properly.

Its come down to who does it best, not who started or who innovated.
