Mr Non Veg!

Unhappy Logitech Z5500 or Sony 20K HTBs ???

Stumble Upon!
HI all,

this post is for all A/V experts and specially Logitech Z5500 owners.

I'm in a mental dilemma these days. After doing a lot f review-reading and spec comparison i recently decided to buy the Logitech Z5500 + Auzentech Xplosion....(coming to around 25k totally burning my pocket )

But Sony is providing full HTBs like these at 20K ..... :

HT-DDW685 : Home Theatre Component System : Home Theatre System : Sony India

I went to the showrooms to have a demo....the one in the link and also others in the 20K range didn't sound as convincing as their looks.

In fact the one in the link didn't even have a separate volume control for the sub-woofer. The bass too didn't have the thump and shake...overall it was just a lot f sound getting produced from the whole set... (....also the set had something that looked as huge and pristine as a A/V receiver....but i doubt whether internally it was really a full-fledged A/V receiver) ....

Forum users, please help me out with ur valuable suggestions in this regard.

I wud really feel like a loser if the guy next door shakes the floor with a Sony 20K HTB....while i, with the Z5500, would not get the thump during Matrix punch-fights or door slamming scenes in DVDs.....

Regards,
Pappu.

Re: Logitech Z5500 or Sony 20K HTBs ???

^ would you rather have a boom box over clarity
standalone, discrete stuff is almost always better than a full fledged system of similar cost.

I am not an expert in the matter, but my gut feeling is that Logitech Z5500 + Auzentech Xplosion >> low end HTBs like the ones you quoted, especially since the former has been tested and found worthy and the latter is just bling with a name tag.

Re: Logitech Z5500 or Sony 20K HTBs ???

Logitech Z5500 ... i don't own it but have listened to it and its quite powerful for a small to medium sized room.(both for games and movies) it might sound little lound on the lowfrequency for music but u can adjust it and make it sound good.

Ive not seen or listened to a Sony home theater so don't know about its quality but i checked the link and the speakers look good but the amp aint powerful. and also its analong so u cant connect the digital out from ur soundcard into this reciever.may be sony manufactures good speakers.. i dont know... but, ive never considered them as a home theater brand.

so i recomend the z5500

Question Re: Logitech Z5500 or Sony 20K HTBs ???

Thnx RadiCal....for ur comments...

A few reviews of the Z5500 say "...the bass could have been tighter" ...or "...the sub could sound tighter" (CNet).

This is what I'm concerned about

Apart from this, connectivity, clarity, setup etc....no concerns at all, when it comes to Z5500.

Re: Logitech Z5500 or Sony 20K HTBs ???

I guess you should be able to get a demo from the shop selling the Z-5500 set. When it was on sale at e-Zone, Sigma Mall, I think they were offering demos. This was around 2 months back though so I'm not sure if they are available over there anymore.

Re: Logitech Z5500 or Sony 20K HTBs ???

Ya man...i too once saw this on display at E-Zone inside Home Town at Marathalli...but the customer service was so poor...that they didn't giv the demo sayin sumthing junk like thy dont hav it conencted..

And the S.P.Road shop (Arihant Computers), frm whr i intend to buy, will dfnitly not play it for me....(..u know those guys...small cramped shops...crowded wid customers all the time....)

Lookin desperately for a demo for this set...b4 buyin.
