Re: LED Tv Help Needed

I won't recommend buying a television by its ability to play various media formats. Its meant to be a good display first and everything else is secondary. A cheap media player like the Asus o!play mini (Even downmixes dts-ma) costs only Rs. 3.6k and an after market media player would always outperform any in built media player.

Since you are limited by your budget, I would suggest buying the largest tv you can with the highest resolution, other things (except reliability and warranty) being secondary.

Here's a cheap option (limited time deal) if you can overlook the brand name:
Akai Flat Panel Televisions: Buy Akai 32E12 LED TV at Lowest Price Rs. 19,990 in India | FutureBazaar.com

Only for Rs 20k!

Re: LED Tv Help Needed

check the price tag

If price was no bar, panny plasmas for the win

for the price of a 32" series 4 samsung led, you can get decent 42" panasonic (or samsung) plasma

Flipkart: Panasonic 42 Inches HD Plasma TH-P42X30D: Television @ 35k
Samsung 43 Inches HD Plasma PS43D450 Television @ 38k
compared to 32inch sammy leds which cost between 36k-50k

Anything more, you hit the 50 incher plasma range where LG really shines as a great buy for someone on a budget
LG 50 Inches HD Plasma 50PT350R Television @46k compared to the 45k 43 incher from Samsung

If you still wanna spend more, then of course you should go full monty and buy something like our Panny VT20D

I find 576p and 720p content good enough to watch on my 50 incher plasma from where I watch, and I am a self respecting geek who stashes 1080p full bitrate blurays. I don't think under normal viewing conditions, it would make an iota of a difference to an average buyer watching hdtv broadcasts whether he buys a 1024x768 res tv or a 1080p one.
led vs plasma is of course subjective, but I am biased towards plasmas now, like @RajaPraveen

Re: LED Tv Help Needed

Ask her to atleast go and view a 42" Panasonic X30 plasma or 50" LG plasma in person if she has the budget for a 5 series 32 inch led

Believe me, full hd does not matter much!

even a 32" incher is big for her ...the viewing distance is hardly 10 feet. do u still want her to go for 42/50" ?

Re: LED Tv Help Needed

Why can't we agree on some simple points..

IPS and Plasmas are > to any other type of screens,
Media player abilities are !!! useless..
Full HD is a must..
Viewing angles are Large a must !!
LED + IPS is a winner !!
Plasmas are for people who are eating ELECTRICITY of us normal people !!

LG + Philips + Toshiba + Panasonic all make IPS and Fantastic IPS LCD's and Plasmas...
rest all are USELESS !!!

FR, you should give a thought or two as to why she is asking the question. she wants her problem simplified and the choices reduced to 2-3 models. your posts are not helping with that objective.

---------- Post added at 07:56 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:54 AM ----------

also, philips is not what it used to be. it is currently overpriced for what's on offer.

Regarding op's query about Toshiba

Flipkart: Toshiba 32 Inches HD LCD 32HV10ZE: Television
Buy Toshiba 32" HD LCD TV 32HV10ZE at Best Price in India - Also find Specifications, Photos, Features & Reviews
17kish without any discount coupon and poeple have bought this for 15kish offline.
Dunno whether its IPS or P/MVA
Searching for panel details but I don't think they make TN panels that big
EDIT:
From Flipkart specs
Viewing angles: 178
I am guessing its eIPS due to its 8 bit panel, but I am sure this one would be worthless, else why would they price it so low?

I would still recommend a 42" plasma btw.

40" lcds are being sold in US for as low as $200

It's not long we'll see the old stock being dumped here at bargain prices. Bear in mind that electronics are a dead investment.

Stick to your budget and buy the most vfm thing without brand bias.
