Re: Introducing Zotac nVidia Ion Based mini-PC!!

Well here is my take. With chrome(6-7 tabs), foobar, utorrent, kmplayer...all working together, my netbook works superbly good. On windows 7 with all the eye candy ON.

But i've got atom 270 with 2gb.

This thing shouldn't be that slow stoney.

Although on HD movies it haggles unless I use coreavc.(1080p are anyway out of question).

This thing is more suitable as a web browser and a download machine. As an HTPC, I agree, its of no use.

You're right, it shouldn't be slow. Even Max's Atom rig (dunno which one though) was pretty responsive at BYOC. But 230 was crawling with regular multitasking. Perhaps it was the FF3 raping the memory, but the CPU usage never dropped below 50% while I was using it. That's actually one of the things that pushed to me LGA775 for my HTPC.

Re: Introducing Zotac nVidia Ion Based mini-PC!!

u know a friend just picked up the atom and was saying the same thing.. had alot of problems with firefox and browsing in general... even driver updates didnt help.. was on xp though... but i had the same 230 with 2gskill and i never faced any issues.. wasnt dual core fast but yeah it wasnt reaaaal slow aswell.. so its a mixed bag depending on what all ur running i think... i had a minimal setup with speedy vista / removed all bloatware/ minimum apps at startup / msn / gtalk .. latest firmware + drivers on every format.. but i also didnt have any anti virus or ad blockers.. so yeah.. i guess it depends on alot of factors.. depending on what all ur using at one go! for me it was a killer setup while i had it.

That's possibly the most irrelevant review for the Ion platform.

Ion is meant to serve as a relatively cheap, low-powered, and cool HTPC. To use it for gaming would be pure foolishness.

Also, why would you take a review that pits an embedded chip against a desktop chip seriously?
