Increase Down Speed : )

First of all download this wonderful program: ---

h@@p://www.speedguide.net/files/TCPOptimizer.exe

Then when u start trhe program goto settings goto cable modem or dsl whatevcer u have.

Go to MaxMTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) and set it to 1500 this is optimal anything above this will not work as well.

Thats bout it!! Enjoy the speed!!

Re: Increase Down Speed : )

If you have a proper configuration, ur MTU should be 1500 already.
and an MTU of 1500 bytes per packet is only applicable to ethernet. If you have ADSL or someother type of connection, 1500 bytes per packet might not be good enough.

To actually check whats the highest MTU that you's networks gateway supports, use
Code:
ping <gateway> -l <S> -f

<S> varies from 0 (increment by 32/64/128 bytes) till you get

Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set.
in which the last value for which u got a reply was the max. mtu that your netowrk/ gateway supports.

Re: Increase Down Speed : )

1500 is good for ethernet connections, but for ADSL connections which are based on PPPoe configuration. 1492 is best suitable.

Re: Increase Down Speed : )

Where do you guys learn such stuff. Network Engineering? I open my Modem Page and everything is only vaguely familiar. Any books to learn such stuff?

That tip about ping is cool, I got my figure at 1472.
