HTC Denies Infringing on Apple iPhone Patents

Google “Stands Behind” Android and Partners in Apple-HTC Legal Action

HTC Corp. has issued a statement claiming that it had not infringe Apple iPhone-related patents and will vigorously fight to defend its rights and intellectual property. The company also said that the lawsuit would under no circumstances affect its short-term financial performance. Meanwhile, Google, the developer of Android that powers HTC phones said it was not a part of the legal action.

“HTC is a mobile technology innovator and patent holder that has been very focused over the past 13 years on creating many of the most innovative smartphones. HTC Corp. values U.S. and international patent rights and will work with in the U.S. Judicial System to protect its own innovations and rights,” an official statement from HTC reads.

HTC said that it believed that consumer choice is a key component to success in the smartphone industry and this is best achieved through multiple suppliers providing a variety of mobile experiences. HTC also offered customers a uniquely-HTC experience through HTC Sense and its broad portfolio of own-brand smartphones, which may mean that HTC believes that the Sense interface and Android operating system is the reason for the lawsuit.

Google itself, which lead the development of Android operating system that powers Sense-based phones from HTC, said that it was definitely not a party of the legal fight between Apple and HTC, but it would stand behind Android as well as its partners. Considering the fact that Google’s own Nexus One is made by HTC, the search giant may indeed become a part of the legal action.

“We are not a party to this lawsuit. However, we stand behind our Android operating system and the partners who have helped us to develop it,” an official from Google is reported to have said.

HTC also stated that it did not believe this lawsuit poses a short-term material impact to its business nor will it affect its Q1 2010 guidance.

Weak and bigoted attack from Apple. Go and design that next iPhone Sheilas, before you lose the existing consumer base you already have for wasting time doing all this rather than actually creating something innovative.

They will do both at the same time.

Also, every firm has a right to fight for patent infringement, including Apple.

Everyone was so happy when Apple was sued for Patent infringements, but now when Apple sue's somebody, its a bad thing? Hypocrites.

It was just Nokia who sued Apple for patent infringements IIRC. And Apple counter sued with something else. I don't even know what happened to that. But if you look at the patents, it includes stuff not even used or available to the iPhone, like multitasking, UI elements etc :/

Nah, Apple has been sued over some Camera patent infringements, and by some Chinese companies about some other things.

When that happened, most people on Erodov were all like "Yay! Apple is getting sued!"

Oh lulz. Camera patent infringement? Seriously? And Chinese companies don't count. What they have in labor, Apple has in a dedicated fund to lawyers :/

And most people on Erodov would be happy if something bad happened/is in the process of happening to Apple. Its always been like that seeing as mostly E comprises of gamers and geeks who want VFM

Screw iMacs. Macbooks were where the value was. Although that's changed with the i3 and i5 mobile chips :/

I've grown a little tired of lawsuits, tbh. Seems like everyone's on a hair trigger these days.

You sure, the last I heard they are giving more money to the customers than they paid to return.. search for " apple offers bounty"
It is ridiculous, the prices they quote for their computers.

YES they are, and I can vouch for that.

Macbooks are slow, underpowered ? :S Ask someone who has used it and not someone who has formed an opinion looking at some random people's macbook once or two times!! I have been using one since nearly 1.5 years and can certainly say that thats not the case!

On Topic: Although every company has a right to protect its patents, I believe Apple has gone a bit too far with this one Or maybe its because I kinda-like Android
