How to Put Password for File Sharing in Windows Xp

1st you will have to make sure that the login account has a password.

Then goto Explorer->Tools>Folder Options->View
Right in the end, you will find Use Simple file sharing somthing, uncheck that.

Next goto the folder you want to share, goto properties->security

remove "Everyone" from the list and add your username.

you will have to logoff and login again on the other systems if you have accessed the shared folder before.

not working.. Instead of asking username and password, it just says "you donot have permission to access the folder"

^do u have a username on xp?...or are u accessing xp as "Administrator"?..
i had run into similar problem and i had to create another user just for the sake of this sharing thingy..u dont hav to login as tat user & set the privs for the folder. do as what countrock said but when u r.click on folder & set the privs..set the user as the new user whom u created & grant the required privs.
