HOC 40 Temps

Allright, I got the HOC 40 today. Installed it on my Phenom II x4 4Ghz. Idle temps 35 degrees and load temps when running prime 95 are 54 degrees. Better than the HOC 20.

I have mounted the fans outside because there is not enough space inside as the NB heatsink and the Vengeance Ram are too long. Will probably have to change the case in the near future.

But I still think this cooler can do a lot better if I install push/pull fan configuration with 4 fans.

Now my concern is. I have installed the stock SVG tech fans with the HOC 40. I do have the Scythe Slipstream 110 CFM fans with me. Do you think these are better than the HOC 40? Here is the fan

Newegg.com - Scythe SY1225SL12SH 120mm "Slipstream" Case Fan

Should I give it a try? will these be better? Hmmm. Should I also change the thermal paste to OCZ Freeze or MX4? One more issue. I cleaned the older CPU thermal paste by just rubbing it off. Is there anything else that I can use to clean the CPU.

No its not the same fan. The stock fan that came with it is 86 CFM so I believe the Scythe fans would be better cause of 110 CFM but I am worried about the pressure. Nothing of that sort has been mentioned on the SVG Tech website. What about the air pressure? and which is the thermal paste that comes with the HOC 40. Is it better than OCZ freeze or MX4?

Re: HOC 40 Temps

use a tissue or a soft cloth...if you want you can use some, very little thinner..its not ideal but easily available..

Well, I have just ordered the OCZ freeze from Techshop.in. I will try that thermal compound as I have heard very good reviews about it. I will try it both on my CPU and GPU and replace the stock fans from the HOC 40 to Scythe Slipstreams. I will post the results once done.

The thermal paste that is pre-applied is Dow-Corning, it is a good Thermal grease.

@Kaneunderground
I would like to know if its safe to use the nail polish remover on the GPU as well. I want to use it on my 6970. That thing gets really hot. I have read reviews where people have sorted the heating issue by just applying a quality thermal paste.

@nikolain
Coming to the CPU temps. I will change the fans to Scythe Slipstreams and test it compared to the Stock fans. I will then test it by applying OCZ Freeze TIM on the CPU and then post the results. But I am still happy with the HOC 40. Better than the HOC 20 and the Hyper 212 plus with (2 Xtraflow fans and Arctic Silver). I know that I can get extra juice out of the HOC 40 by changing the TIM and using better fans in push/pull. But unfortunately, for now I will just use pull due to my Case being a Mid Tower and the HOC 40 being a monster size liquid cooler.
