Re: HDD for Games

black - last long, more warranty and better perf. better to stick with blue IMHO.
About Samsung, so far from my experience they are quiet and runs at a low temp than seagate drives with same speed, but slower in perf.

Re: HDD for Games

+1 for WD black they are worth the money(i had 1tb black as primary drive and love it). But this drive is not suitable for only storage according to its price. I have purchased a 1tb green its a slow but it ok for storage drive as its low price. I have a 500gb blue which is best vfm i.e fast at a good price point. I didn't find any 1tb blue any where in market.

Re: HDD for Games

I need to check for the 1tb Wb Blue in SP Road, Bangalore or else I will get the seagate 1tb from flipkart. Since my drive will be used for gaming, I need certain level performance. Green will be too slow and black will be overkill. I heard that Samsung HDD division is being purchased by Seagate

What about the Buffalo Mini-Station 1TB HDD
Seems perfect for a storage box for Games considering the Price Tag.

game mostly reply on sequential data access. Sata 3 gives around 120mb/sec seq read speead, where usb 3.0 gives 80mb/s seq read speed. (ref - USB 3.0 vs. SATA 3.0). Also performance of usb 3.0 drive also depends on - what drive and controller is using inside (7200 or 5400 rpm etc). Playing games from usb 3.0 specially with game in large open area may give some jitters when entering to a new area.
As of now I am considering getting a WD blue 1 tb (WD10EZEX) , this is a single platter drive with 64mb cache priced at Rs. 3750 with 2 yrs warranty ( Aashirwad computer, SP Road, bangalore). Too bad there is no 2 tb of WD Blue is in market. WD black 1tb and 2tb will cost Rs.5450 and Rs.9800 with 5 yrs of warranty.

Try Parted Magic, it includes Gparted too. Corsair recommend it to manage their SSDs. Never used it from a USB though, so cant comment on it.
