Am also getting ~160ms to 8.8.8.8 but it only 40-50 to the airtel dns, and since no probs with airtel so far so am sticking to Airtel. Also youtube is slower in 8.8.8.8 ! Last edited by Harsh; 12-04-2009 at 09:04 PM. |

| Re: Google Launches Itself as DNS Server The fact is this service is faster than OpenDNS... unless you're particularly afraid of losing any valuable information that you share via the internet,(I am not afraid, because I don't share any such information) GoogleDNS will be the first choice...

| Re: Google Launches Itself as DNS Server This is a DNS service... all they do is translate a request for abc.xyz.tld to xxx.yyy.zzz.aaa !! Ofcourse, considering that this is Google, they will lift a lot of information from these requests. Google analytics is quite wide spread, so by using this service, they are not gaining any information which they ALREADY are not getting... but this takes the approach to information away from individual websites to the DNS level. How this can be used? My guess is that if a user is browsing a site using Google Analytics (www.x.com) clicks a link and goes to www.y.com which does not use Analytics, if the user is on Google DNS, Google still tracks you across the Interweb. If Google was out to get you, they already would... just use the service if it is faster for u than your local ISP's. For me, the latency is 30 ms from UK. |
