Goofed Up - Unlocking Iphone4

Hi guys, one of my friends is in deep tension because what he thinks is he goofed up with his brand new Iphone 4.

here's what happened:

• He had the Iphone 4, unlocked it using Gevey sim, was on Ios 4.
• was working fine
• until he decided to bump it up to Ios 5.0
• to do that he first did a restore using itunes, and then proceeded to update the OS.
• now the phone won't detect the sim and gets stuck at the language selection screen not even going to the home screen.

I read a few articles that I could which state the Gevey/Jailbreaking is not compatible yet with IOS 5.0, now the query is can this be fixed ?

We are located in bangalore, so if some helpful techie could help us or suggest a suitable+reliable+competent shop to get it done, it'll be GREAT!

pardon me for not putting it down in all details and technicalities as i am not well accquainted to the Iphone and its lingoes my knowledge on the subject is 1 day old.

From what I understand, I think you're boned till they have an unlock for the new baseband. I heard something about a new Gevey SIM coming soon that might unlock the new basebands, but till then, I guess you're stuck with an over-priced iPod Touch! You can still Jailbreak it though. The new jailbreak that was out recently works on the iPhone4.

thank you for your reply Edrill. I do get what you say, but I read something on downgrading the basebands from 4.11.08 to an older one and then reflashing the custom firmware ios 4.3.5 to make it again work with the Gevey sim.

That's most likely rubbish. The baseband can't be downgraded. You could manage to downgrade the firmware, but you're still gonna be stuck with the newer baseband.

Bro, why do you want Gevy Sim.

Download IOS 5.0.1 IPSW. Put your phone in DS Recovery mode.
Download Redsnow and create a custom IPSW with old baseband.
Install the custom IPSW with itunes.
Jailbreak the iphone 5.0.1 using Redsnow.
You are all set...

That article was posted for downgrading from iOS 5 beta to 4.5.5 that too for people who had developers account and it was official then. There is no way to downgrade the baseband and a very rare possibility for a new Gevey sim to unlock the 4.11.xx baseband.

can you help me with a tutorial ? i am aware of the most of the part except the creating IPSW with old baseband ?

as far as i know for this i need to download the stock IOS 5.0.1 IPSW and run it thrugh redsnow then restore it via itunes 10.5 .. but how does one lower the baseband that's the whole agenda !

Don't go around experimenting with your iPhone. The best bet would be to wait and follow applenberry on facebook and twitter as they are the official resellers for Gevey. Applenberry recently updated on Facebook that they are working on the next update of Gevey to unlock the latest baseband but the solution could take more then 30 days.

The latest version of Redsnow has this option of putting in old base band...

I have done this on nearly 24-25 iphones (consisting of iphone 3gs and iphone 4) and it has worked like a charm.

From what I understand, Redsn0w allows you to preserve your existing baseband when you upgrade to a newer version of iOS. I don't think it'll allow you to downgrade it to a lower version.

when u use Redsnow, there is an option for restoring 06.15 iPAD baseband on iphone that is unlockable.

But that only works on the iPhone 3GS, not the iPhone4.

@iknowledge bro, u seem to bring some hope. are you sure it works with iphone4. because @Edrill speaks otherwise.
