Good Time to Upgrade?

Hey guys,

I am in a dilemma and need your suggestions, getting the upgrade itch, looking at the 2500k+p67+6950 2gb+ 8gb 1600. The requirement will be to game at my monitors native resolution(24'), HD movies and the usual. I am not totally abreast with the latest platforms and timelines for the new ones. I know Sandy Bridge-E just released, and it doesnt make sense for my requirement.

So, my questions:

1) I hear Ivy Bridge will launch by Q1 2012 and is about 60% faster than SB, is it worth waiting for IB?
2) GPU upgrade, when exactly will the next gen of GPUs be launched?

Thanks in advance.

For GPU, why dont you wait for the AMD's 7-series? You need to be patient of course.

Re: Good Time to Upgrade?

i was also on a verge to Upgrade my entire RIG .
but for now i've settled for a i5 2500k , a future proof ivy bridge mobo .
as for the GPU , i'll let my current GTX 460 to kick the bucket, when Kepler or 7XXX series time will tell us.
Don't upgrade ur GPU now. wait for either of GPU release . its pretty close

Pardon my ignorance, but any particular reason for the Z68, I looked at the benchies and there is not much difference when compared to the P67. Besides I am not a hardcore OCer, just the odd 300-400 mhz increase will rock my boat.

Which mobo, did you decide to get or already have?

Another quick question will the SATA III SSDs work with my current rig ?

Thanks for all the replies!

Re: Good Time to Upgrade?

^ Nope i still haven't bought it .
Just like u deciding & finalizing .
i've got an eye on ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 . ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards- ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3
as for the SSD, ur mobo Asus P5Q Deluxe was designed before the advent of SATA 3, therez no onboard SATA III controller
however, you can still run SATA3 drives off the SATA2 controller. But i have no idea bout SATA III SSDs . Sorry
i think it might be backward compatible . wait for experts to pour in

Should you find yourselves with some extra cash and need for more firepower the upcoming 22nm Ivy Bridge is compatible with Z68 chipset and hence the chipset.
Other advantages include Lucid Virtu.

I was asking why are you choosing the Z68 chipset, not doubting the ASUS brand. Any idea what the retail price of the AsusZ68-V PRo is?

Well, I am fairly convinced with the Z68 chipset, but the compatibility with IB is still unclear, although mobo manufacturers seemed to have confirm the compatibility.
