General purpose rig required.

|

K my friend wishes to upgrade his home rig.
His max budget is 20k. No hardcore gaming. Rig will be used for
Sound editing s/w, movies, internet.

Please suggest something. Intel based system would be a plus.
Also he wants an lcd. So suggest any VFM LCD 19' or greater.

Thanks

Re: General purpose rig required.

y intel ??? still here it goes assuming u will need all the preipherals except LCD in 20k

Intel DC e5200 + Gigabyte G31S2L = 5600
Transcend 800 Mhz 2x2 GB = 2400
Seagate 500GB 7200.12 = 2850
Zebronics Bijli Cabby = 1700
LG DVD RW = 1100
Logitech Combo = 700
Microtek UPS = 1700
Altec Lansing 2.1 = 1200

Total comes to 17350, with the rest 2.65k , u can choose between
1. Upgrading Proccy to E7400 for 2.4k more
2. Upgrading to any entry lvl GPU like Palit 9400 GT for 2.5k ish.
3. UPgrading to better PSU like Zebronics Platinum series or CM EP 380 W for 1.5-2k

And for LCD, Dell 1909W for 7.2k.

Re: General purpose rig required.

I need some more inputs.
Maybe the budget can go upto 25k.
The CPU IMO should be better. And graphics card too should be something better than a 9400GT

How serious is the "sound editing"? You can't really assemble a "serious" sound editing rig for 25K.

Re: General purpose rig required.

then with 5k more (assuming that u chose the 1st upgrade option and going for E7400).. u can get a decent entry lvl card but u should also upgrade ur PSU for tht.
Zebby Bijli cabby is around 1.3-1.4k wthout psu. So u have 5.3 k for GPU and PSU. So

Sapphire 4670 512MB DDR3 - 4.3k

Zebby Platinum Series PSU - 1.5k.

Its over ur budget by 0.5k. So to reduce cost u can look for E7200 in place of E7400 (if available) and can save around 400-500 bucks for marginal performance difference. or downgrade the HDD to 320 GB and save 0.5k (though i wont recommend tht).

Now its ur choice.

Re: General purpose rig required.

Go in for the Phenom II X2 550 on a 780G based MoBo. These two are the most significant components. Rest you can go for a 7200.12 based HDD which is a significant improvement over the 7200.11. If I were you, I'd go for a 22" Monitor as the minimum. Choose the one which is cheap when you go for it as the prices are volatile and also based on the ports offered (DVI-D necessarily and HDMI is a bonus). Min & Max 4GB of RAM. More than that really doesn't make any difference practically. Any DVD-RW will do. Go for the Micorosoft Keyboard and mouse - my personal opinion. I've had a wonderful experience with the soft and smooth feel of these. Others really can't match the feel of a MS Mouse or keyboard. And depending on your GPU, go in for a decent PSU. I'd say go for the one which is 80 PLUS certified. (i have the Corsair VX450, absolute darling. Muwahahaha).
