Erodov Overclocking Contest 2011 - Sponsored By Coolermaster and MSI

Overclocking computers is a fascinating science, art and hobby. We have a lot of overclocking enthusiasts here on the Erodov forums so we are pleased to bring to you the the Erodov.com Overclocking Contest 2011 in collaboration with Choiix and MSI.

We will be having five contest categories and a total of twelve prizes. The categories are divided by the types of processors being used. Your processor can be overclocked to only the maximum specified clock speed for each category. The rest of the gains are expected to come from operating system optimisations.

The categories for the contest are as follows:

1. i7/i5/i3 2nd Generation (Eg. 2600K, 2500K, 2400, 2300) - The clock limit on these CPU's should not to exceed 4000MHz or 4GHz. This means 4000.1MHz is over the clock limit and not allowed. Do not allow your CPU clocks to exceed this limit at any point during the running of these benches.

2. i7/i5/i3 (Eg. 980X, 950, 920, 860, 661) - The clock limit on these CPU's should not to exceed 4000MHz or 4GHz. This means 4000.1MHz is over the clock limit and not allowed. Do not allow your CPU clocks to exceed this limit at any point during the running of these benches.

3. Bulldozer/Llano/Phenom II/Athlon II series CPU - The clock limit on these CPU's should not to exceed 3600 MHz or 3.6GHz. This means 3600.1MHz is over the clock limit and not allowed. Do not allow your cpu clocks to exceed this limit at any point during the running of these benches.

4. Intel Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad CPU's - - The clock limit on these CPU's should not to exceed 3600 MHz or 3.6GHz. This means 3600.1MHz is over the clock limit and not allowed. Do not allow your cpu clocks to exceed this limit at any point during the running of these benches.

5. Legacy (e.g. Phenom/Athlon/P4)/ Best Effort - The clock limit on these CPU's should not to exceed 3200 MHz or 3.2GHz. This means 3200.1MHz is over the clock limit and not allowed. Non-categorized winners will be decided on best effort/efficiency basis.

The Prizes For The Contest Will Be

Ten Choiix Power Fort 10Whrs Rechargeable Power Backup Battery Packs
The top two winners in each category will get one Battery pack each. More details of the power pack can be had from here

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In addition the top winner of the i7/i5/i3 2nd Generation category will get

One MSI P67A-GD65 Motherboard

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also the top winner of the Bulldozer/Phenom II/Athlon II series CPU category will get

One MSI 890FX-GD70 Motherboard

Please note that these mainboards have been used as review samples but are fully functional with warranty.

The rules are of the contest are as follows:

  • The contest is open for to all members from 16th October 2011 to Wednesday, 30th November 2011. If you are not already an registered member, you must first register as a member on Erodov.com. Registration is free and can be done here.
  • The benchmarks used for the contest will be SuperPi 8 million run using Super PI Mod v1.5 and Hexus Pifast Run. Only results form Super PI Mod v1.5 will be considered and no other version is allowed. You can download it from here. Hexus Pifast can be downloaded from here.
  • You can participate in multiple categories but you are allowed to win only one prize in the contest.
  • You can submit multiple results in the contest. Only your best run will be considered as the contest entry.
  • To submit your results you must post a image screenshots of the SuperPi 8 million run and the Pifast run along with the current CPUZ CPU, Memory, Mainboard tabs and temperatures showing in Real Temp or Core Temp in this thread. The results will be updated in the second post of this thread. The images can be in JPEG, GIF or PNG format. Here are examples of a ideal screenshots :-
oc_comp.jpg oc_comp1.jpg
Example Superpi 8m and Hexus Pifast run screenshots
  • You must post separate screenshots of both Superpi and Pifast runs. Every participants best score from each bench will be combined for a total time. The lowest combined time overall will be the winner.
  • You must use the official contest desktop wallpaper set in "tile" mode for the contest entries. You can download the wallpaper here. Everything must be plainly visible with no vital information blocked for your result to count.
  • You may use any CPU, RAM and Graphic Card combination on a single socket motherboard you would like.
  • ONLY Air or Ambient Cooled Water are to be used anywhere on your setup for the contest benchmarks. Use of cryogenic coolants and dry ice is prohibited.
  • The winners are expected to disclose the tweaks they used to arrive at their scores at the end of competition so all can benefit from their knowledge.

At 512x7 its at 3584 mhz, which slows speed down, but the higher fsb does help. Ill run some tests and see.

Since using an exact fsb to multi takes the CPU speed above 3600 by 0.7 mhz. Thats the issue.

Issue is with ram. Its not ready to run at CL6 stable at 1200 mhz ( thats what its rated to do ), i just tested it for tighter timings on a fluke and this came out.

So its more to do with the board ( not supporting ram at 600 mhz, if fsb is 400, or even if fsb is 500 , ram at 600 ).

Im hoping that my other g.skill kit, the one in my siggy, comes from RMA soon.

But yeah, i do top the leaderboard in my category, dont I???
Ahh...JD we have similar scores, your super pi score is a whisker better than mine, and in Hexus its the vice versa, I am not posting my scores here, cause I am having trouble with setting the background in Win7, so my entry wont be considered. But this is good stuff, I can push my ram a bit more too..

Cmon mate... my entry was meant for the exact opposite purpose. To get someone to post a sub 2 min score (using legal means, i.e.)

Jasku, I think we can make an exception for you. Since you are unable to set the background, try this: run the benchmark at 1024x768 reso. That way once you have all the windows open (Cpuz x 3, CoreTemp, Spi/PiFast,) there is no area left to show the background anyways.

Jd, the RAM you got is really good man... can't even think of getting close to that score... my board will not boot over 423MHz... cant get the CAS below 5 at any frequency...

^^ thanks mate, i got the same sticks on my rig.. issue is that the board is not letting em run at 1200 mhz. Else these sticks should do 1200 CL5 easy, and that bandwidth should get a good score from the CPU. Also the clock generator is ok ok, so i cant use a rounded off fsb like 400, have to use 399 or 513 etc.

XMS2 will do CL5 at 1000 mhz with a few extra volts. The board should do 430-440 FSB, but that would be pushing it really hard. Plus you have a Quad, which the G31 is not too happy with ( not stable power enough ). The G31 is a great board for overclocking for what it is.

cant do a CL5 at 1000....i have +0.4V to RAM ,which is max on that board...I even gave the FSB +0.3V, which is max, and still cant get it past that FSB... I got only 1 way, 400x9 and optimize it...I cant do a CL 4 at 800MHz on these...

Hmm...well the sad part is that i accidentally broke a pin on the LGA775 socket on my P5Q Deluxe.

Any idea if the whole socket is reparable or replaceable?

+ 0.4 V means that you have given about 2.2V to the RAM, which is quite a lot.

See if you can get your hand on any Transcend P chips, those will do CL4 at 800 mhz, and CL5 at 1000.

Thanks @idutt
