Erodov Overclocking Contest 2011 - Sponsored By Coolermaster and MSI

Overclocking computers is a fascinating science, art and hobby. We have a lot of overclocking enthusiasts here on the Erodov forums so we are pleased to bring to you the the Erodov.com Overclocking Contest 2011 in collaboration with Choiix and MSI.

We will be having five contest categories and a total of twelve prizes. The categories are divided by the types of processors being used. Your processor can be overclocked to only the maximum specified clock speed for each category. The rest of the gains are expected to come from operating system optimisations.

The categories for the contest are as follows:

1. i7/i5/i3 2nd Generation (Eg. 2600K, 2500K, 2400, 2300) - The clock limit on these CPU's should not to exceed 4000MHz or 4GHz. This means 4000.1MHz is over the clock limit and not allowed. Do not allow your CPU clocks to exceed this limit at any point during the running of these benches.

2. i7/i5/i3 (Eg. 980X, 950, 920, 860, 661) - The clock limit on these CPU's should not to exceed 4000MHz or 4GHz. This means 4000.1MHz is over the clock limit and not allowed. Do not allow your CPU clocks to exceed this limit at any point during the running of these benches.

3. Bulldozer/Llano/Phenom II/Athlon II series CPU - The clock limit on these CPU's should not to exceed 3600 MHz or 3.6GHz. This means 3600.1MHz is over the clock limit and not allowed. Do not allow your cpu clocks to exceed this limit at any point during the running of these benches.

4. Intel Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad CPU's - - The clock limit on these CPU's should not to exceed 3600 MHz or 3.6GHz. This means 3600.1MHz is over the clock limit and not allowed. Do not allow your cpu clocks to exceed this limit at any point during the running of these benches.

5. Legacy (e.g. Phenom/Athlon/P4)/ Best Effort - The clock limit on these CPU's should not to exceed 3200 MHz or 3.2GHz. This means 3200.1MHz is over the clock limit and not allowed. Non-categorized winners will be decided on best effort/efficiency basis.

The Prizes For The Contest Will Be

Ten Choiix Power Fort 10Whrs Rechargeable Power Backup Battery Packs
The top two winners in each category will get one Battery pack each. More details of the power pack can be had from here

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In addition the top winner of the i7/i5/i3 2nd Generation category will get

One MSI P67A-GD65 Motherboard

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also the top winner of the Bulldozer/Phenom II/Athlon II series CPU category will get

One MSI 890FX-GD70 Motherboard

Please note that these mainboards have been used as review samples but are fully functional with warranty.

Not every one is posting at the full potential, . Even if your C2D rig is able to do 3.0Ghz which I sure am it can, it would still give other members with such rigs some morale boost to post their own score, . Hope you do reconsider,

Thanks for insisting guys and in fact I was glad to hear that the time line has been extended. I studied the timings a week ago and I realised that I have a lot of work and time that I need to put in compared to last time around. I will make use of the 2 week extension and pull up something at least a little better than the last time scores. Cheers!!

improved SuperPi run....Pifast is still the same....

Also, when I run the system at higher FSB but lower RAM speeds (and slightly better timings), i get a much slower time...and waza does not work, gives some error...

After some hours benching and tweaking I was able to achieve these times. System becomes unstable if I use 1 mhz more in FSB, no matter what voltage. Seem to be the hard limit for this cpu.

Hexus pifast 29,89 sec

and

Superpi 3m 37,511 sec

Pleased after all

Sweoggy, pretty good score but we would need a video validation of the score.

I have succesfully burn a PSU and a hard disk. Don't know if GPU is alright or not

Me and GodLike! were to submit something together and his PSU blew up just as we connected it to the mobo.

what crap PSU were you using???? I believe you would have been ocing 2600K??? It doesnt even require a volt bump to overclock a 2600K to 4Ghz,

I told you earlier for my first run I was using vx550 and i7 950.

For the second run it was the FSP supero and 555be however in this case we just connected the psu to a new mobo and it went kaput.

Although we still have 18 days for the contest to end, using the comparison image I can makes a lot of predictions/conclusions:-
a)We see fewer entries in the almost all the categories because by now some of them have moved on the the 2nd generation i7/i5 (which is not shown in the image as I had nothing to compare it with) hence you see lesser over all entries, so @thebanik don't think about increasing the FB like/ 3like contests, OC contests should have a long life @ [E]
b)People in the 1st generation i7/i5 , AMD & C2D categories have reached their peaks , so the winner will be as per the last year's entries(in their respective category); unless you have a wild card entry with new hardware that can take the caek.
c)The difference between the triple channel & the dual Chanel guys this year is ~3 seconds, as compared to 6seconds last year(and a 10seconds gain is observed by the same user due to the frequency change from 3.6ghz to 4ghz). It means that the dual channel guys have improved in the past year.
d)Any thing is possible in the Legacy category.

@vijayninel for you sir I went through the complete thread making sure I don't make a mistake or end up breaking the rules, my conclusions as follows:-
If you don't have a descent rig , you are allowed to beg , borrow, steal hardware (although I don't recommend the last) so you can take the new MOBO & CPU fresh out of the box from KIDO & the rams from MAV and win this easy in the 2generation category. There are no rules stopping admin/mods from participating/winning. As it may not look to too good for the ADMIN to take the prize, I checked there are no rules stopping you from giving away the prize , And trust me I'll be there for you even if you decide to grace me with this burden.

While I was scanning through the rules , I also came up with this
