This is what the box looks from the front of Edimax EW-7811Un, Edimax claims it to be world`s smallest wireless USB adapter .

The back side of the box contains the adapter features in 12 different languages.

The contents inside the box consists of an Installation CD,and the adapter.

A close-up of just the adapter.

And to give you an idea of why Edimax calls this device a nano adapter.

Software Look

Testing

To check the device and to know how well this this device works to increase Wi-Fi throughput. I used my Acer laptop Aspire 5738Z as the test bed, which includes the following base specifications:-
  • Intel T4200
  • 2gb ddr3
  • Hdd 320gb
  • Windows 7 Ultimate
How I tested

To test the device I checked its Signal Strength @10,20,30 feet using PassMark’s WirelessMon v3 Wi-Fi testing software and Copying Transfer rate .

Test series 1: With Edimax EW-7811Un Wi-Fi adapter at a distance of 10 feet.

The connection status as reported by Windows:

The signal strength as reported by WirelessMon @10 feet:

Signal strength vs. time as reported by WirelessMon @10 feet:

Folder copy transfer rate @10 feet:

Test series 2: With Edimax EW-7811Un Wi-Fi adapter at a distance of 20 feet.

The connection status as reported by Windows:

The signal strength as reported by WirelessMon @20 feet:

Signal strength vs. time as reported by WirelessMon @20 feet:

Folder copy transfer rate @20 feet:

Test series 3: With Edimax EW-7811Un WI-Fi adapter at a distance of 30 feet.

The connection status as reported by Windows:

The signal strength as reported by WirelessMon @30 feet:

Signal strength vs. time as reported by WirelessMon @30 feet:

Folder copy transfer rate @30 feet:

Signal strength for the EW-7811Un adapter was fine up to a range of 25-30 feet but dropped off dramatically from the 40 feet mark to the 50 feet mark even copy transfer rates was also good upto a range of 25 feet as the distance between the adapter and the router is less but as the distance increase over 30 feet EW-7811Un transfer rate decrease suddenly and stuck around 300-400kbps.

Conclusion

Users that are still using old laptops and suffering from signal drooping they may get advantage from Edimax EW-7811Un WI-fi adapter through improved Ethernet transfer rates. If the Edimax adapter is close enough to the router or As long as one maintains a reasonable distance between the adapter and the router then this little handy device will breath new life into your older machine and you will see a good improvement over an 802.11g adapter.

The EW-7811Un simply lacks the signal antenna area at longer distance but If your router is centrally located in your home/office, you may get benefit from the use the Edimax EW-7811Un WI-Fi adapter.

The Good

Small Size
Easy Installation
Price

The Bad

Performance falls off at long range

Specially Thanks to Edimax for providing the review Sample.

Re: Edimax EW-7811Un Wireless 802.11b/g/n Nano USB Adapter Review

Grt review mate. Cheers.

have a small queation :
presently I am using a belkin router to connect my two Computer in LAN and Wifi is used for mobile devices.

Now if I use these two edimax devices in my two PCs will it be able to recive from belkin router and also will the share work.Or a Edimax router is required. i am not much into networking so excuse me for any lame point.

I have static ISP and it's configure in router itself

really if this works this can save a lot of wire clumsymess.

thanks,

@sandude yes you can connect two computers using edimax usb adapter with belkin router and can share, access all your data via wifi ... even if one computer is attached with router via lan and other is using wifi adapter still your both computers are in one network and you can share all your work .
