I want to start off this article by saying that Malwares are good for computer security . Wait .. did i miss some word in the previous line ? NO, really Malware directly / indirectly actually pushes the security standards of the industry to better levels . Isn't that a good thing ? As computer security interests me , this is a good thing for me.

Every now & then i find some friend / foe in a situation where his machine would be bugged up & complain 'This Windows sux...'.Later after all the talks they will start to wonder whether it's the OS which was the problem or the malware which was causing all the goofups.

This is a guide which would benefit most home users ( & with some other details, perhaps some small organizations as well )

So lets see what I'm not going to discuss about in this article :
  • How to get the commercial applications for free
  • Disaster recovery

I'll make a effort to cover every basic aspect of basic security here.

Lets start by defining what malware is...

Re: Definitive guide to Windows Security

^ PCtools Antispyware provides a good realtime protection. The new version of pctools antispyware comes with its own antivirus engine.(it , but it did detect a private trojan.)
And moreover Ad-Aware was not able to catch many new types infiltrations(stopped using it since last year).
The PCtools also warns you if u try communicating with a ip address which is flagged dangerous.

Repped and Dugg ... Nice article

@sidk - NOD32 is great but AFAIK, it only has the scanner. It doesn't have a real time protection system. Or maybe in the newer versions they added it.

Re: Definitive guide to Windows Security

AntiVir was able to detect a few USB autorun worms which Kaspersky failed to detect. Besides, AntiVir is free. But, I haven't yet changed from Kaspersky, I'm still thinkin about it..

Btw, nice article..

Kaspersky is a very nice av,there r always things one av can do n d other cannot.there might be many things kaspersky would be able to detect and antivir might not.
