idea Core I5 2500K CPU Gets Too Hot Without OC and Normal Usage

Hi guys,

I recently assembled my PC and started using it.
But CPU gets too hot suddenly yesterday and even get a prompt that PC would be shutdown or delay it by 60 seconds, due to overheating.
I checked in CoreTemp, it says 81 - 85 degree Celsius for almost 4 cores.
Normal temp. under normal usage last I checked was hovering between 40-50 degree(Let me know if its more/less/avg)
I am Using a stock cooler and normal 50rs one TIM bought from roadside vendor.

Also my room temp. is generally hot, so suggest me a CPU cooler according to that(No AC in study room)
I have shortlisted Cheap Gammax CPU cooler, let me know !!

I don't want my ram slot to be occupied, below is snapshot of mobo:

What's the RAM and cabby you're using?

And yes, for your budget, 212X as said by Timon will be the best
212X has better RAM clearance than the earlier 212 EVO.

I am using iBall i2241 Cabinet and 2 X 4gb GSkill Ripjaws.
212X is out of budget, btw I think my cabby is of small so any compact CPU cooler is required.

Let me know !!

Your cabby is small to accomodate a 120mm cooler like the 212X.

Take the Hyper TX3 EVO.
It has a 92mm fan, and would fit in your cabby
Costs 1.5k

---------- Post added at 03:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:47 PM ----------

And also do some cable management, and if possible install extra fan, if your cabby supports it.
Bad airflow is causing the overheating.

can you post a screenshot of hwmonitor readings of all voltages and temp..
maybe your vcore voltage is high..which is resulting in high temps

Yup. Keen observation!
Also the thermal paste might have dried up. I have a very bad experience with cheap TIMs. I suggest the OP to use something like Arctic Silver 5 or Deepcool Z5.

Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound 3.5 gram will cost @haris5sani around 0.6K... can't be good, because @haris5sani can't afford this at a moment..

Otherwise @haris5sani have to buy the cooler suggested by you...CM hyper TX3 EVO... It will come under 1.6K..

i would suggest to wipe off all the TIM clean and check the temperature...
then reapply the TIM and try... also dont forget to give the screenshot of voltages..

Your stock cooler is very much capable of withstanding the normal usage. Also make sure the plastic clips of heat sink is getting properly locked..

Re: Core I5 2500K CPU Gets Too Hot Without OC and Normal Usage

Thanks a lot guys, will do the steps tonight, once I reach home !!
That high temp is only one day story, I remembered PC was on for past 20 hours and light gaming/torrenting/misc. work continuously on a hot day and in a closed room.
But guys I don't think 45-50 degree is ambient temp. for normal usage.
Moreover I will switch to Hi Def. gaming next month so temp would be hotter, my guess.

Thinking of buying CM Hyper TX3 Evo, but only if it fits into my iBall i2241 cabinet. How to check this ?
IIRC they provide TIM with that, so need to buy TIM separately. Will buy CPU cooler instead.

Also what would be the similar compact CPU cooler for my iBall i2241 Cabinet ?

Regards
Haris

The TX3 EVO fits into a Zebronics Peace cabby which has a width of 5.7".
Your has 6.8".
So, no problem.
