A Complete Guide to Water Cooling

Over the last year and a half I have worked on two computer systems and both have been with integrated water cooling. It's been a interesting and expensive journey and one which has had its share of ups and downs. There have been times where I would spend hours on solving what finally turned out to be extremely small issues and there have been times that wiring and tubing confused the hell out of me. I have had my share of burnt pumps, tubing that just would not bend, wrong fittings, leaking parts, a acrylic that was too easy to stain. But through all of this, I also enjoyed extremely great temperatures, low sound, superb overclocking and the respect and love of all of you here.

Today, my aim is to help all of you to take the same route that I took one and a half years ago promising all the help that I can along the way. I will be happy to answer any questions that you have and help out with choosing parts and configs. I hope this guide will be of great help to all the aspiring water coolers here.

I will try and break this article into a few parts to make it easier to understand and also easier to search:

1. Parts of a Water Cooling System

2.
Water Blocks

3. Pumps and Reservoirs

4.
Radiators

5. Tubing and Fittings

6. Fluids and Anti Bacteria/Algae

7. Setting it all up and Leak Testing

8. Where to Buy and Conclusion

Before I go into specifics, I hear a lot of people asking, "Why Water cooling???"
  • Well, its a great way to cool your computer to better levels than an air cooler can
  • Its a lot more quiet
  • And......
  • Well, its a lot more sexay.....

Re: A Complete Guide to Water Cooling

To be truthful, NB and mobo in general dont need water cooling. Its only for "E-Peen" or looks that someone would do it. So to the ram blocks...not needed. DDR 3 runs cool enough and with Low voltage kits they run even cooler.

I would suggest a CPU - GPU loop and that should set you back around 15-17k, with a single 360 rad.
