ATI HD5450 DirectX 11 Card Review
Introduction

Since the launch of the Radeon HD 5970 and HD 5870 ATI has aggressively gone ahead and secured every market segment with the launch of 5850, 5770, 5750, 5670 and most recently the 5570 and 5450. Most reviews, including ours, concentrate on the high and mid level graphic cards which can play all present and some future games across a range of resolutions. However, today we will be reviewing ATI's cheapest and smallest offering in the new lineup of DX11 cards, the ATI 5450. There are not so many gamers as there are HTPC users who want a low-budget discrete graphic card to play their movies and maybe from time to time play a basic 3D game. This card fits exactly in that category, where playing HD movies, browsing the internet, YouTube videos and Blu-Ray playback are the most important things. Unfortunately, the current crop of integrated video processors are not able to handle all this effectively, necessitating purpose-built cards like the HD 5450, that are supposed to manage all this for only a few thousand rupees.

At the outset, I would like to make it clear that this will not simply be a game-centric review. We will be looking at the capabilities of the HD5450 in HD-decoding/encoding, Blu-Ray disc playback and basic gaming. So let's move ahead and see what the card is capable of...

Unorthodox, but its still good nonetheless.

I think you forgot to put 4350 in the 2nd last page in the graphs :/

Like the conclusion says, it excels as an HTPC offering. And at 3.5K-odd, it's decent value too.

And thanks for pointing out that error, it'll get fixed ASAP

All of this at just 20 watts of power is amazing.

Yes, the full load power usage at only 20 watts does impress me, this is a killer card for htpc's. nice comparisons Banik, but you could have also used real world application usage stats as softwares like Pshop use the gpu to help in computing. just a suggestion there.

Manish, no idea bout Photoshop man, how it works, what is the standard test I could have carried out in it, though would keep that in mind and maybe will search out for a standard set of test for comparison.

Will it support/play 5.1 AVC High profile?(I don't know what is either) Curious. Nice review. Repped.

Forgot to add HTPC gpus imo mus be fanless Low gaming performance for this card won't be a "con". Being not fanless is a negative here though many vendors will come out with fanless versions later.

This is a review sample. All the retail cards are passively cooled

And yes, it will happily support AVC High Profile 5.1 (which is basically painfully awesome video decoding).
