ATI 5970 Waterblocks Are Here Surprisingly Quick

|

It's only been a few weeks since the HD 5970 hit shelves but top liquid-cooling manufacturers around the globe have already stepped up to the plate with waterblocks for the fastest card on earth. Given the notorious heat issues and VRM throttling being faced by this dual-GPU behemoth, this could be just what the doctor ordered.

Aqua Computer have a slim and sexy little number in copper and stainless steel. Highlights are integrated plastic standoffs/spacers, light weight and of course the unbeatable good-looking combination of brushed steel and copper.

The price is 83.95 EUR ex-tax, which works out to a cool $125. Hit the product link for more pics and details.

Koolance has a nickel-plated copper block, with somewhat unusual placement of the fittings. While previous Koolance internals were rather horribly designed, in my opinion, they've revised their blocks with the introduction of the HD 5870, and with those internals are carried into the this block it shouldn't be too bad.

The RRP on this is $140. Hit the link for more.

Danger Den has been consistently beating everyone to the market with new blocks, but one is beginning to wonder whether this actually has any impact on their sales. There's nothing remotely interesting on the insides besides an evidently free-flowing interior. Considering nearly all other manufacturers are moving away from this sort of thing, it remains to be seen whether this setup actually does any good.

RRP on this block is a relatively wallet-friendly $120. The link, as always, has the juicy details.

Last, but by no means the least, EK Waterblocks has 4 variants of what is essentially the same block. Always proactive, always taking input from the community, my money would be on these blocks being among the top performers from the current crop of full-cover solutions for the 5970. And with a range of finishes, from nickel plated to bare copper, from Delrin-topped to clear plex, there's a block to suit almost every taste.

I can't find US prices, but these blocks range from 120 EUR to 130 EUR. Not exactly cheap but going by past track records, should be worth the money. Check out the link for info on all 4 variants.

Swiftech does have a full-cover block, but I've yet to dig up info on that. Heatkiller has promised a block soon, but given how long their 5870 block took to materialize, I'm not holding my breath.

Re: ATI 5970 Waterblocks Are Here Surprisingly Quick

I bet the EK blocks give the best results. Their supreme CPU block actually forced dethroned the Dtek fusion and forced em to get to the drawing board for version 2, back in the days.

Nice thread Stoney

Re: ATI 5970 Waterblocks Are Here Surprisingly Quick

7K is what I was quoted for the AC block shipped to Los Angeles from Germany. Germany to India should be around the same.

EDIT: Oh wait, that was a 5870 block. Shatter's right, it should be 8K+
