AppleCare Macbook Pro

Hi guys,
I have a MBP 13 the 2011 model. The AppleCare plan costs about 15 grand or 18 I don't remember exactly. Ebay has various prices ranging from 12.5 to 21.5 K.

I have about a week to decide. I use my laptop with EXTREME care. And the usage is also pretty basic no intensive work. Movies/Browsing/Photo Editing that's about it.

Should I consider the Applecare? It's pretty expensive!

Please pour in your suggestions.

I don't think you need that !!!
Even if something bad happens.. it will be well worth to get it serviced or repaired by paying cash.. so save money !!

If you taking extreme care, believe me, for you the Apple Care will be a waste of money.

One of my 2 MBPs is on 24/7 and still shows no signs of wear and tear. Using it like any normal machine with no extra or special care. I don't have the Apple Care (owned it for 8 months now) and am pretty happy that I did not waste my money to get Apple Care.

Your call from here on. My advise, save your money.

First of all, Apple stopped supporting Apple Plans purchased from anywhere other than Apple Store. I remember last year i wanted one for my MBP and there were gazallion posts on the internet that ebay purchased codes don't work.

Secondly, its worth it. 3 years of service. you never know what goes wrong even if you take utmost care.
Let me put it this way - i always thought its a waste of money until the screen on my iMac started flickering. I used it for like 2 hours per day and then once a week because i purchased a MacPro. the screen replacement cost if out of warranty - 50000 INR. (mine had ABP fortunately).

So its upto you. i have never had a single problem with MBP or MacPros but you never know. its either ABP or the insane prices they charge for replacement/repair.

Well dude, shelling out 18 grand seems a lot! Yes, I had also read some posts that ebay codes don't work many times. So Apple Store is the only place and the prices you know better than me are exorbitant! Guess, should have considered that before getting an Apple

Anyway, right now I'm not considering to get the ACare. Let's hope for the best, fingers are crossed.

Re: AppleCare Macbook Pro

Attitudes matter a lot when dealing with the service center.

I purchased AppleCare on the last day of the 1 year warranty, because of problems with the DVD Drive, for around 9,000 at the time. It was worth it, as my Combo Drive got spoilt 3 times (which would have cost 4000-5000 to fix every time.)

If you aren't having problems, chances are you won't need it in the 2 extra years.

It was a around 2007-08 now that I remember it .. Apple wasn't established much at that time in India and they didn't have local service centers I think.

That is exactly what I read at some places when I googled this query! I also have a gut that this thing is possible. If it ain't broken in the first year chances our it'll survive. If it gives problems from the beginning better get AppleCare!
