You want to buy/use an Apple Cinema Display 27" for a Windows PC?

Exactly my question :O

and the answer to OP's query is , as long as you have a mini displayport, the older 27 inch cinema displays will work. The new apple displays use Thunderbolt so only current generation macs are compatible with it.

Re: Apple Display on Win7 ??

Yep, it should work with a DVI to Mini Display Port adapter.

Not MiniDVI.

@Ad1tya : Why is it that my graphics card has 2 of these Mini Display Port thingys.. but none of the monitors I have (all new high end models) have this??

Is it only Apple monitors that come with this currently??

Re: Apple Display on Win7 ??

I have u2410, it's quite old(about 2yr old model) and it came along with the display-port cable instead of hdmi, which I wasn't expecting.-P ATi HD 6xxx started coming with display ports for infinity display setup, when they launched it. Display port is typically for professional type of work and setup(without audio).

I haven't actually come across any monitors which have Display Port connectors honestly.

Even my 5870 2GB Eyefinity, has 6 Mini Display Ports, which adapters for DVI/VGA/HDMI.
(I'm guessing this was a design idea to get 6 ports to fit at the back).

I'm pretty sure there must be some monitors around, which have that spec.

Yes. I don't see why not. You may have to calibrate the screen a little bit though.

Re: Apple Display on Win7 ??

The Windows and the Mac will give the same 'quality' of display on the Apple Thunderbolt Display, however, the DPI handling is a little better on Mac OS X so you have text readability issue when on Windows 7.

Also, it will be recommended if you actually test this setup out before making a very expensive mistake. Afaik, the Thunderbolt display relies on a Thunderbolt connection to display image, and using a (something) to Mini DP adapter will not work. You might be able to plug the cable in, but won't actually get a display.

https://discussions.apple.com/thread...rt=15&tstart=0 (lots of people saying that the Mini DP is not enough to display image on the Thunderbolt display, even from older macs running Lion... let alone Windows PC.)
