Another Nano Catches Fire

This time the car was being driven from showroom to home after delivery

Earlier there was a report about Nano catching fire in Ahmadabad.

Tata has refused to a a full scale recall.
I think that in reply to this thread, there will be lots of news references to other cars catching fire too, but I would like to see news articles of other manufactures where a brand new car caught fire shortly after purchase.
This is poor QC, and sadly, in India, the most a manufacturer can lose is the cost of a car + 10-20,000rs as compensation. Not much incentive to spend crores on a recall!

Re: Another Nano Catches Fire

^^ apparently the issue has already been addressed, and all cars are being fixed... but really unfortunate for it to happen to a car which has so much riding on it.

Shows the calibre of the Manufacturer. Toyota, Honda & Suzuki all bowed down and did a recall. Tata shows its finger.

Re: Another Nano Catches Fire

^^ its also the difference between confirmed failures and intermittent faults... to isolate the design flaw, it has to be plausible enough to warrant a re-design...

economics dictates that even safety can take a backseat in the name of margins... though i like the concept that nano is, so i dont like to believe that tata wont do anything about it, since that is one manufacturer, which has continuously improved their products ( read tata indica ), but yeah might have been a lil slow to move on to new designs ( read tata safari )

Re: Another Nano Catches Fire

that company is not in a state to afford a recall. to be honest. atleast from nano point of view, they've been screwed at all fronts.

if they are fixing the problem on ad-hoc basis, fair enough. but i do expect that to be done rather religiously. no excuses there.

i am sorry? tata can handle nano recall very easily but i don't think this issue is with all the engines because so far 3 cases only:gotmicrowaved:

Re: Another Nano Catches Fire

^^ maverick - the first issues were with the steering indicator stalk smoking when indicators were switched on or something.

In this case the dudes engine caught fire. Could be one of many reasons, No coolant, or not checked, no oil or less oil, blockage in front of the radiator, fan not working, intakes blocked, or just a goof up during manufacturing.

Extensively testing a vehicle can give you a trouble free system.. To ensure that it will be trouble free, you need a proper assembly line...

Like in computers.. just by buying the latest hardware will not make you a geek.. You need to be able to put it all together and make it run without shorting or burning anything...
