Re: Amazon's Kindle Fire Released.

For the price, maybe the Fire is good but as a tablet on its won disregarding the price, no.

As for reading ebooks, a tablet is a absolute NO. You need to get an e-ink display, nothing comes close.

Re: Amazon's Kindle Fire Released.

What bout the other 79$ e-ink?
I want an ebook reader!
I will probably D/l my books and load em up on the e-reader.

Wait, you can transfer through USB right?
I don't want to download stuff over the internet to my reader...

Re: Amazon's Kindle Fire Released.

Yes, you can do that. It's $79 with special offers and $99 without special offers.

Re: Amazon's Kindle Fire Released.

The $79 reader is great for anyone who doesn't want the bells and whistles, although I still like the Nook better because of rootable Android so I have Kindle+Nook ecosystems, besides that the deal maker was the microSD card, the Kindle seriously needs to get a microSD card.

@Xeo, you can connect using USB.

$79 is a god awesome price for an eInk. I got mine for $130. Good thing I didnt pursue my plan to get another one.

The cheapest/decent tablet on MP4nation.net with a capacitive screen costs $189(Renesas). But this Kindle Fire is $200. So I think its a very very good price for the hardware specs.

Also Amazon said that it doesnt care if it gets rooted and stuff. Unlike Apple which closes vulnerabilities with each round, looks like Amazon is going to ignore rooters. This should encourage sales a.k.a Nook which most people buy pre-rooted and use for other things.

Which means this tablet can perform more magic through custom ROM's.

Maybe statistics show that the way forward is eBooks and online content and most people buy content from legitimate sources.

So the business model is aimed at profits through selling content and not hardware. Apple should take this cue and drop prices on theirs hardware too. That would really turn the tables.

As for me - I'm going to wait for the reviews and the first rooting solution available before I get one.

You can do all that on the Nook Simple touch for sure, and root it and have access to all the 2.1 compatible apps. I have Kindle app and exPDFReader and also a DJVU format viewer app on mine and a couple of rss related apps too.

Specifically want to know for the Kindle Touch.

I know we can on the Nook products, because they're android based, so yeah.
