9mm Height HDD in Thinkpad X220 ?

Guys,
I think, I came across to a mod of putting a 9mm height HDD in Lenovo X220/230 somewhere, but unable to find the thread exactly on any search engine.
By the by, any idea if a 9mm height 2tb HDD can be put on Lenovo X220 laptop?
Thanks in advance.

Re: 9mm Height HDD in Thinkpad X220 ?

Any idea guys?
I think, months/years ago I've read it somewhere (most probably a German forum) how to mod a lenovo X220/230 to accommodate a 9mm HDD, without using brute force. Actually, I am planning to get a used X220/230 from ebay. I already have a 256 mSATA SSD for OS and a 2TB mechanical HDD for storage, and I don't want to use this HDD with external adapter.
I am unable to find that particular thread as well I need your expertise inputs .
Thanks and regards again.

Re: 9mm Height HDD in Thinkpad X220 ?

I have just done it. Anyone can put a 9.5mm height HDD in X220/x230,
You just have to grind (I used sand paper) these four guards, as shown in the picture.

I used sand paper and grind down those four raisers. I do not see any important use for these four raisers.
Of course, putting back the rubber HDD case/guard is outta question. So, I just used some extra soft rubbers to fit the HDD to prevent vibration. Small machines like X220/230 which support mSATA, if equipped with a 2TB + 256 mSATA SSD + 8 gigs of RAMs is somewhat a good machine.
I know, these x220/230 are old schools but they are, especially the X220 is a small monster. I have two X230s and a T420. They are lovely machines.
