2nd Hand bikes in Mumbai.

Anybody know a good place in Mumbai to buy 2nd hand bikes?

Im looking specifically at a FZ-S or a R15. Nothing else really.

Any idea where I can find these?

Would be buying it after the monsoon season.

I'd mostly be buying a New FZ-S, because I dont think I can afford the 30k more for an R15. Unless I find a 2nd hand R15 for like 80k.

pls dont even bother with the 15, sucks compared to the fz. the kit is a buncha ********, not worth it, will let u know, best bet is contacting ur local mechanics first. they always keep an eye out.

Re: 2nd Hand bikes in Mumbai.

Whats the issue with the R15?.. I find the looks much better compared to the FZ-S. But, the price pulls me back.

Oh, and FYI, this will be my first bike. Yes, its stupid to go in for a expensive bike as your first bike, but I can afford to buy a 2nd hand bike, sell it and then buy another one.

Re: 2nd Hand bikes in Mumbai.

Do not go for a second hand FZ. FZs have reported issues with the intake system, wherein improper installation of the air filter causes dust to get sucked into the engine. This causes the rings (piston) to wear out, and the bike emits smoke and starts burning engine oil. So the chances are if you are looking at a 5-10k kms ridden bike, it could possibly have had that issue, unless you know the owner or thru someone. The company is covering the repair under warranty, but then the warranty is applicable to the first owner only. the second owner does not get it.

Also for mumbai traffic the FZ will be a complete hoot to ride, since its so easy to control and manoeuver. Plus it looks super cool!!! Go for a FZ, you can get the parts and bits of the FZ-S fitted later at about 3k or so. ( the side plastic on the headlight,t he small fairing, and the colored tank covers and side panels ). The rim tape you can get done anywhere. So if you get a good deal on a FZ, go for it.

the FZ out shines the R15 in traffic rideability and flickability. You still need some margin of open roads to thoroughly enjoy the R15. And potholes and bumps are not its greatest friends, the FZ will ride over anything, though its got a lower ground clearance than the R15!!

Yes, I was, changed my mind. I dont see a 40k Invesment in a Scooter worth it.

@ JD, The problem is with trhe FZ-S, the FZ-16, or both?

as of now what i know its the FZ only, coz the FZ-S is a newer launch, but visual cosmetics apart, there isnt any difference to the bikes.

Re: 2nd Hand bikes in Mumbai.

^^

Its not much of a issue as JD says.

Most issues like this will be repaired on the first / second / third free service. Just take any local mechanic to check the bike. and ask him to chck the Air Filter. One look and he can say it.

Re: 2nd Hand bikes in Mumbai.

^^ dude??? you serious? bike burning oil and engine being rebuilt by the company?? might as well buy a second hand bike, if you wanna get such work done. The workshop level of work, can not match the company's manufacturing and assembly of the engine. Even if it could, you think we have such workshops here??? the engine has gone for a toss, with changing the piston and the rings and the blocks, the crank balance, everything is messed up. They will never torque it right, and tighten the nuts to the company spec. Its done for.

And there have been instances of bikes not even having 100 ml of engine oil left in em, ( FZ ), whats to happen of the rest of the engine????

No way, if you have a engine oil consumption issue, better to look at a bike who's history is known. IF the filter is fitted correctly, its a bullet proof engine, but then dust will kill any engine.

Re: 2nd Hand bikes in Mumbai.

^^^

I answered that according to your reply. If its a known pblm, they are addressed by companies. So the issues that will never come into place. and besides its a law suit. And as a P200 owner, my bike's oil seals, e-start, the ecu were all upgraded/replaced by my local PBK citing company procedure, for free.

and the issues you just mentioned, i have not come across one yet, when it happens ill comment on that.
Have like 6 frnds with fz's. 2 of them petrolheads. i doubt a issue like this wont be noticed by them.

Re: 2nd Hand bikes in Mumbai.

^^ incorrect fitment of the air filter by the mechanic does not constitute a law suit. Lets put it this ways, im sure you have 6 bikes to get feedback from, i am talking bout getting this information firsthand from a service engineer who covers three districts. So the probability of the issue happening goes up because there are so many owners, but having about 20+ bikes that he reported with this issue?

Also this is what he explained, i have not seen or checked it out first hand - The air filter on the FZ can be incorrectly fitted or not seated properly( so its not a design flaw but a service fault) during service. Also the filter box has plastic mounts where the screws are tightened, and if over tightened they can loose their thread, causing the filter box cover to get loose. This will/can/has cause(d) dust to enter the engine and create the wear and tear.

the bottom line is, for the OP, that buy a FZ only after you know its history, it could be one that had this problem and the owner wanted to get rid of it. ( that would generally be why one would sell a new machine less than a year old, not all sales are distress sales ) .

^^ Cool, thanks. I guess ill go in for a new one then.

What about the R15?.. What are your views on it? Worth the 30k over the FZ?

Re: 2nd Hand bikes in Mumbai.

the FZ has the low end grunt, the naked muscle look, and an amazing control and handling in traffic.

The R15 handles equally well in traffic and on the highway and is excellent for curves and corners, but its a slight bother in stop-go traffic because of the stance.
Its got the high revving engine, the stellar performer, and the top whack that blows the competition away. Plus it looks the part of the sports bike and gives you brag value as well!!

Depends what your riding style is, sharp and fast, slow and pottering around, or spirited fast riding. ( R15 for the first, FZ for the last ).

@m-jeri - thanks for understanding what i was trying to say!
